Job Description

Lead the transformation and improvement of the AHP offer in Public Health / Prevention in the health and social care system in Wales. Contribute to a highly complex national programme approach to enhance the quality of services provided by AHPs aligning with other national bodies, programmes and networks across the NHS Executive, social care and PHW including: Strategic Programme for Primary Care; Strategic Programme for Mental Health; Strategic Programme for Mental Health; National Planned Care Programme; National Strategic Clinical Networks. Work autonomously in planning, prioritising, and delivering long term objectives within the national context and direction of the Prevention team in the Primary Care Division of Public Health Wales; supporting and impacting the embedding of Prevention Based Health and Care across the AHP workforce in Wales. Requires the interpretation of national policy; formulating, structuring and scheduling a broad range of complex activities; the implementation of plans and strategies; capturing / demonstrating impact; and providing input on spending plans and identifying opportunities for cost improvement programmes to enhance service delivery efficiency.



Working across organisational and professional boundaries to collaborate and lead on the development of an appropriately skilled AHP Public Health workforce, designing, developing, planning, delivering and evaluating national training programmes as a core part of the role; raising the profile and role identity of the AHP public health workforce. Working across organisational boundaries to lead on the development of tenders to procure services or goods to support the programme, contributing to the selection of suppliers and leading on the evaluation of outcomes. Contribute to national policy and strategy that impact on population health and prevention, integrating AHPs into national programmes to fully implement A Healthier Wales. Disseminate complex information through presentations, workshops, seminars and conferences to large groups and to regularly produce and deliver high level reports and communicate highly complex information to a wide variety of audiences where there may be barriers to understanding.



Pro-actively manage strategic relationships with a wide range of stakeholders across the Health and Social Care system in Wales, working with and influencing senior stakeholders in policy and practice Work collaboratively with those leading other initiatives to address inter-dependencies and ensure alignment. Engaging with colleagues and stakeholders to support their understanding and to enable implementation, and working to overcome barriers and conflicts where these may exist. Maintain research and education / training database systems and create reports, presentations and prepare and deliver education/training materials. Undertakes R & D activity including the identification, collation and interpretation of evidence and best practice from across Wales, the UK and internationally to design roles, models and services that maximise the value of Allied Health Professions in Public Health / Prevention.



Lead on the development of policies and procedures for AHP services in Public Health / Prevention across NHS Wales, including national standards, guidelines, policy, strategy, and workforce planning, leading defined work streams as appropriate, embedding Prevention Based Health and Care across working practice. Introduce and encourage creative and innovative thinking in the development and implementation of leadership practices for AHPs in Public Health, Primary Care, NHS and Social Care in Wales and exploring ways to engage digital technology to enhance the reach and outcome of the AHP offer in Public Health / Prevention. Generate, analyse and interpret highly complex statistical data from a variety of sources, where there are a number of complicated aspects to take into account which do not have immediate solutions, such as changes in structures (, roles, budget allocations, and priorities. Link with those leading other national initiatives and other national lead AHP roles to address inter-dependencies and ensure alignment.
