Job Description

AS2Educate are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and dynamic Alternative Provision Tutor / Mentor to join our team. Experience working within an Alternative Provision is essential, as is a strong understanding of young people with SEMH and behavioural challenges.

This role is ideal for someone with a background in sport, enrichment, coaching, youth work, mentoring, or practical learning environments. You do not need to be a qualified teacher, your ability to engage, motivate, and support our students is far more important.

The post involves delivering sports sessions, enrichment activities, and small-group or 1:1 academic lessons, underpinned by empathy and trauma-informed practice.

AS2Educate provides a safe, therapeutic, and nurturing learning environment for young people who have not thrived in mainstream education. Our trauma-informed, creative, and practical curriculum supports students with a range of additional needs including SEMH, ASD, ADHD, ODD, EBD, anxiety and trauma-related difficulties. We are committed to helping students rebuild confidence, reignite a passion for learning, and work towards a positive future.

Key Responsibilities



Teaching, Coaching & Enrichment



Lead and deliver high-quality sports sessions, physical activities, and enrichment programmes. Support delivery of vocational and practical programmes (e.g., Sports, Outdoor Education, Employability, Bushcraft, Construction, Food & Cookery, etc.). Plan and facilitate creative, practical, and therapeutic learning sessions tailored to individual needs.

Student Support



Build trusting, positive relationships with young people who have experienced trauma or exclusion. Provide consistent mentoring and emotional support to help students build resilience, confidence, and social skills. Use a calm, trauma-informed approach to help students regulate emotions and behaviour. Support students in developing independence, life skills, and aspiration for their next steps.

Behaviour & Safeguarding



Use de-escalation strategies, positive behaviour support, and relational practice. Maintain a safe, nurturing environment that meets safeguarding standards.

Planning & Administration



Contribute to personalised learning plans and support programmes. Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development.

Essential Requirements



Experience working within an Alternative Provision or similar setting. Strong experience supporting young people with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, or trauma. A trauma-informed, empathetic, and relationship-based approach to supporting students. Ability to lead sports and enrichment activities. Resilience, patience, creativity, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Ability to work flexibly as part of a small, dedicated team. Background in youth work, coaching, mentoring, outdoor education, or practical trades. Full UK driving licence.

Desirable (but not essential)



Experience delivering Functional Skills or vocational qualifications.
