As an
Ambulance Care Assistant (ACA) at ZAM FM
, you will carry out duties associated with
NEPTS operations
, providing safe, timely, and compassionate transportation for patients to and from hospitals, care homes, clinics, treatment centres, and private residences.
Your key responsibilities include:
Ensuring the
safe, respectful, and timely transport
of patients as trained.
Supporting patients with
mobility, cognitive, or sensory impairments
using appropriate equipment (e.g., wheelchairs, stretchers, lifting aids).
Delivering care in line with training, patient rights,
Medicines Management
,
consent
, and
mental capacity
standards.
Administering
first aid
and
oxygen therapy
when required, within scope of training and policy.
Conducting
dynamic risk assessments
in patient-facing environments.
Monitoring patient wellbeing from the rear of an ambulance when no advanced treatment is in progress.
Stopping the vehicle safely and escalating to the clinician or dispatch team immediately if a patient deteriorates or if concerns arise.
Driving smoothly and safely in accordance with:
Traffic regulations
Ambulance driving training standards
The Highway Code
Maintaining communication with
ambulance control and dispatch
.
Maintaining, cleaning, and restocking ambulance vehicles, ensuring:
Legal and roadworthy condition
Required clinical supplies and consumables are available
Infection Prevention and Control standards are met
Completing
accurate and timely reports and record keeping
(including incidents, risk, or safeguarding concerns).
Working collaboratively with internal teams and external healthcare staff to ensure safe patient handovers.
Promoting and protecting patient
confidentiality, dignity, autonomy, and safety
at all times.
Adhering to all relevant
company policies, Codes of Conduct, and governance standards
.
Demonstrating
flexibility
, including:
Working 24/7 rota-based shifts (early, late, nights, weekends)
Lone working where appropriate
Travelling between multiple base locations when required
Carrying out
any other reasonable duties
as requested by the company.
Requirements
Proven patient-facing or care experience
(preferred but relevant experience accepted).
Valid UK Full B category driving licence
with
no more than 6 penalty points
.
Good knowledge of the
Highway Code
(tested at assessment stage).
Strong communication, observation, and decision-making skills under pressure.
Emotionally resilient and able to manage changing priorities in unpredictable environments.
Willing and able to travel between sites for operational and training purposes.
Licence/Certification

UK Driving Licence - B Category
DBS Enhanced Check
(processed/verified by employer upon appointment)
Preferred:
First Aid Certification
(if not already included in training background)
