The successful applicant will work in an established Ambulatory Care Unit supporting the Band 6 Ambulatory Sister here at Williton Hospital.
You will be providing specified tests requested by secondary care and carried out in the community. This will include but will not be limited to phlebotomy, spirometry, ECG/ECG holter tests, weight, and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. As part of the Ambulatory Care team, you will also be providing blood transfusions, iron infusions, routine catheter changes (Male, Female and Suprapubic), chemotherapy pump removal, central line care and removal, intravenous antibiotics, cannulation, venesections, ABPI Dopplers and Portacaths
The Ambulatory Nurse will need to practice autonomously and make decisions using their own initiative.
The Unit is currently opened 9am - 5pm weekdays and 10.00am - 2.00pm at the weekend and bank holidays.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The post holder will be responsible for the day to day running of the clinic completing discharge letters, taking referrals form GP's, hospitals or district nurses, or referring patients on to specialist like urology and booking routine appointments.
The Band 5 nurse will be responsible for making sure that checks are completed in the unit e.g., resus bag, fridge, Audits when the Band 6 is not present.
The nurse will be responsible for making sure that there is sufficient stock ordered so that the unit can run effectively and using resources appropriately. As well as participate in rotation of stock to include medicine, dressings, minimising wastage.
This role will require the nurse to practice autonomously and make decisions under their own initiative using past professional judgment and drawing on their clinical expertise.
To have a responsibility for the correct use, management, storage of equipment and to assist with the training of new and junior staff in following Trust procedures.
To be prepared to undergo specialist training with a responsibility of continuing performance improvement with the specialty
Identify own learning needs and participate in own continuing professional development through personal development plan
To be a support/mentor to all staff within the team, including students to meet their objectives
