Job Description


The AML team is responsible for ensuring the Society\'s compliance with Money Laundering Regulations by operating defences in relation to money laundering and terrorist financing. Responsibilities include automated customer and transaction monitoring, receiving, and investigating suspicious activity reports, identification, and monitoring of high-risk customers, including PEPs, and providing guidance on identification queries.

Your day to day as a Money Laundering Investigator:

  • Completing comprehensive, thorough, and timely investigations of suspicious behaviour, using a variety of sources, including publicly available sources, and through interaction with both internal and external stakeholders such as other regulated firms and law enforcement.
  • Ensuring investigations are documented accordingly to evidential standards.
  • Providing recommendations for outcomes on investigations based on sound and verified evidence for approval, including where appropriate, to make disclosures under the prescribed and most appropriate format to the National Crime Agency (NCA).
  • Complete customer risk assessments, identifying where Enhanced Due Diligence is required in accordance with the Money Laundering Regulations, or to manage the customer within the risk appetite of the Society.

About you:
  • Communication Skills - decision making and time management skills, as well as having the ability to analyse conflicting information.
  • Organisational skills - methodical and thorough in your attention to detail.
  • Team Work - reliably working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Building relationships - ability to communicate recommendations both internally and externally will be key activities within the role.
Essential Requirements:
  • Evidence of working in a risk or fraud area environment
  • Sound understanding of financial crime and money laundering risk to the Society and an understanding of the current legislative and regulatory environment
  • Experience and understanding of the importance of customer care and Society operations
  • Confidence in the use of computer systems Microsoft Word and Excel.
Desirable Requirements:
  • Industry recognised qualifications such as the ICA Certificate in Anti-Money Laundering are desirable, though you should be prepared to undertake qualification as part of training plan
  • Previous experience of working in a financial crime function
Hours: 35 - Mon to Fri
