Job Description

The Forum Dental Studio are seeking a qualified Anaesthetist or Sedation-Trained Dentist to join our team to provide IV conscious sedation services for patients undergoing dental procedures.

The role would initially be at our Scunthorpe location as part of delivery of an NHS Minor Oral Surgery Contract, with a view to future delivery at our location The Forum in Gainsborough, to cover a variety of dental procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct pre-sedation assessments to determine patient suitability (medical history, ASA classification, etc.). Administer sedation (IV midazolam, inhalation sedation, or oral sedation) in line with UK guidelines (e.g., IACSD standards). Monitor patients' vital signs throughout procedures and during recovery. Work collaboratively with the treating clinician to deliver seamless patient care. Ensure all sedation-related documentation is accurately maintained. Recognise and manage any sedation-related emergencies or complications. Participate in audits, incident reporting, and adherence to Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards. Educate and reassure patients and their families regarding the sedation process. Support one of our dental nurses in her sedation nursing qualification.

Essential Requirements -

For Anaesthetists:

GMC registration with a licence to practise in the UK. Completion of specialist anaesthesia training (e.g. FRCA). Experience in outpatient or procedural sedation. ALS certification (Advanced Life Support).
For Sedation-Trained Dentists:

GDC registration with appropriate indemnity cover. Additional postgraduate training in conscious sedation (SAAD, PGCert in Dental Sedation, or equivalent). IACSD-compliant sedation training and evidence of competency logbook. Immediate Life Support (ILS) certification.

Remuneration:

The rate of pay for candidates will vary subject to levels of qualifications and experience. We are happy for candidates to inform us of their expected earnings for the role, and we can consider suitability. Candidates should note earnings for delivery as part of the NHS Minor Oral Surgery Service are constrained by the payment terms of the NHS contract.

Working Days and Times:

We currently have flexibility on working days and hours, so we are happy to discuss this with candidates.

In total, we are looking to put on two full sedation days per month.
