SENIORITY LEVEL: Junior Level

ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES

What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?

Work in partnership with New Categories product development teams to design analytical solutions and to deliver timely and reliable data that enable robust technical decision-making, primarily for the Wellbeing and Stimulation category. This requires analytical expertise, product chemistry knowledge, problem-solving skills, stakeholder engagement and effective communication.

WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR:

  • Working both individually and as part of a team, leading scientific studies which address key requirements to support New Categories product development.
  • Engaging effectively with stakeholders in order to establish testing requirements and purposes, for the purpose of designing studies that provide the right data and information.
  • Leading the development of novel analytical approaches, primarily LC-based, to effectively support New Categories product development.
  • Evaluating the scientific data to provide appropriate conclusions and effectively deliver these to stakeholders in the form of technical reports and presentations.
  • Contributing along with all members of the department to the operational running of the laboratory and quality systems.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Good analytical chemistry knowledge for the detection and quantification of a range of active substances found in consumer products, including trace level analytes in complex matrices;
  • Relevant experience of analytical method development and validation using instrumental analysis techniques, especially LC-MS/MS and LC-UV, including troubleshooting;
  • Ability to effectively engage and communicate proactively with internal stakeholders within R&D;
  • Good attention to detail with a keen problem-solving attitude and willingness to learn new skills;
  • Creative, flexible, receptive to change, focused and able to deliver;
  • Professional/academic achievement in Chemistry or a related physical science degree.
BENEFICIAL
  • Experience in the use of GC-based methods as well as LC;
  • Familiarity with software such as OpenLab, SCIEX OS, Analyst, ChemStation, ChromCompare;
  • Active membership of the RSC and/or evidence of proactive continuing professional development;
