The Vacancy:



Purpose of the role

To work with members of the Applications team, Sales, BDM's and other appropriate functions, in the creation and development of technical solutions (inc. NPI, NPI lite, standard product & Resale), in response to customer and sales enquiries, ensuring alignment with business and strategic needs.

Technical solutions should focus on Amphenol's strengths and utilise new, bespoke or existing products to provide design solutions to customer's needs. Pull through from innovation should be used to drive innovative technology product creation & development.

Supports senior members of the Applications team and the Engineering Director as required, reports progress against enquires.

Duties and responsibilities

To contribute to the Applications workload as required. Interacts with Sales and BDM's to identify opportunities where applications can leverage Amphenol products, expertise and knowledge, so as to drive product development and sales. Focus should be on providing system solutions over product wherever possible. Ensures close working with customers to deliver product development solutions to customer needs and wants, captures technical specifications and creates compliance matrices and concept designs to customer requirements understands, identifies and captures required verification, validation and qualification requirements. Liaises with pre-production & operations functions to ensure that proposed solutions allow for efficient and cost-effective manufacture. Robustly tests developed concepts to ensure that final solutions can be marketed and manufactured within Amphenol guidelines taking into account all considerations which may affect manufacture of product. Identifies risks, obsolescence and sole source issues, achieves efficient product & information handover to internal customers e.g. Engineering, Product Management etc. Supports the Applications workload, in order to achieve the relevant objectives, deliveries & goals, identify and resolve issues in a timely manner and feedback progress / risks as required Conducts design & development activities and preparation of engineering drawings, production specifications, schedules and contract modifications to ensure that customer requirements are met. Ensures that all applications projects are supported by comprehensive application notes, which clearly outline the implementation & integration of Amphenol products into the customers proposed application, notes may also include supporting information, technical specifications & datasheets.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Degree qualified or above in Mechanical Engineering (or similar) Masters in a relevant subject (materials, mechanics etc.) would be advantageous.

Experience

5+ years in Engineering / Design role or similar Prior experience in customer liaison / customer facing role Prior experience in 3D CAD & product life cycle software, CREO advantageous, design of small components and assemblies Experienced in design and manufacture of small components with knowledge of corresponding tolerances and manufacturing techniques. Able to generate concept designs from technical requirements and customer input Prior connector design desirous but not essential

Technical

Mechanical bias knowledge with some electrical skills A good understanding of the NPI process Practical problem-solving skills in the design components and products regarding materials and manufacturing techniques Amphenol product knowledge desirous Knowledge of connectors advantageous

Skills and Competencies

Excellent communication skills Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently. Working knowledge of Microsoft software packages Role requires significant customer interaction; candidate will need to be at ease and confident when meeting new people and must be smartly dressed when conducting customer meetings. Role will require UK and foreign travel; candidate must be willing to travel as required.
