Key Objectives of the Role
As an application technologist in the Synergy Innovation team, your work will be focused on but not exclusive to the beverage category. The work will be on soft drinks for example juice drinks, carbonates, energy drinks, flavoured waters and alcoholic beverages such as spirit drinks, ferments, and flavoured alcoholic beverages. The main role will be developing innovative beverage formulations (considering both technical and commercial constraints) with Synergy's taste solutions.
You will work on optimising the flavour portfolio and from this, make flavour selections for customers.
You will have a curious mind set to continuously learn and develop industry leading ways of working and product applications.
Objectives, Roles and ResponsibilitiesLead reactive customer briefings, working on end-to-end beverage development, selecting the best taste solutions from Synergy's portfolio. From customer brief objectives, deliver projects on time, performing necessary revisions as required. Ensure recipes are fit for factory production supported with relevant specifications.
Prepare samples for sensory evaluation for project work and to support the Innovation team.
With the applications team, evaluate flavours and optimise the Synergy portfolio.
Select appropriate flavours for sample requests.
Carry out projects with the wider Innovation team, manage relationships with the creation, analytical and sensory groups to ensure successful project outcomes.
Contribute to departmental long-term proactive projects ensuring that objectives are completed within project scope. Support all related application work.
Participate in category-led activities requiring application work - support Synergy proactive presentations and promotions.
Attend sensory sessions to support the work of the Innovation Team and QC.
Work directly with customers, lead workshops and attend customer visits.
Attend trade shows and conferences to both understand the market and develop customer relationships.
Build relationships with ingredient suppliers and industry specialists to gain raw material, legislative and processing knowledge.
Develop relationships with customers to best understand their processing capabilities to ensure recipe development is optimised for their requirements.
With continuous learning, develop expertise in beverage formulations, to offer technical advice to other members of the applications team, customers, and account managers.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skill and Experience (Required to perform the job)
EssentialDegree in Food Science / Science, or related subject
2-3 years of experience working in beverage development - have formulation expertise in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Effective communicator with all stakeholders, both internally and externally.
Ability to prioritise effectively, while working on multiple projects, often with short deadlines
