Brief Description

The Wales & Western Capital Delivery team believe in the \'One Team\' ethos. You will be working in a team that is passionate about delivering safely, efficiently and providing value for money for our passengers, train and freight operators and the taxpayer.

We are embarking on an exciting delivery model for our next 5-year delivery period. Our portfolio is diverse spanning from Buildings & Civils, Enhancements, Track, Signalling, Power and Communications. The projects delivered can range from major enhancements e.g., High Speed 2 Old Oak Common Station on the Great Western Mainline to medium sized enhancements, third party funded projects, renewals, and minor works. All of these are key to keeping our railway safe and running.

Our focus is on recruiting and retaining people who are key to the running of our railway. About the role (External)

A Commercial Apprenticeship with Network Rail is the first step into an exciting career in the Rail industry.

Overview

  • You need be aged 18 or over on or before 25 September 2023 to apply for this scheme.
  • Your salary in the first year is \xc2\xa319,838 and will increase each year.
  • The scheme lasts for three years.
  • Studying with Exeter College (1 day a week)
What you\'ll get out of it

After completing the course, you will have a Level 4 Construction Quantity Surveying Technician qualification.

You could even have further support and sponsorship from us to attend university and the chance to achieve professional qualifications. Because, when you start your career with Network Rail as an apprentice, anything is possible!

Many of our apprentices go on to hold senior positions within Network Rail. The career path for this Apprentice opportunity would be a Project Commercial Assistant, with later career opportunities such as Assistant Commercial Manager, Commercial Manager and Senior Commercial Manager.

The entry requirements

You\'ll need at least GCSEs in English Language and Science at Grades 9 - 4, Maths at Grade 9 - 5, and one other subject at Grades 9 - 4.

Your Main Responsibilities will be to:

\xc2\xb7 Understanding and working with the systems that Network Rail uses to commercially manage its projects e.g., Oracle Projects, Monitor, Citadel, CEMAR so that they record the latest and correct information.

\xc2\xb7 Assist in the measurement and evaluation of the commercial value of payments, monitoring the correct certification of goods, services and works prior to authorisation in accordance with the terms and conditions of the contracts.

\xc2\xb7 Contribute to the reporting on all commercial aspects of allocated projects including budgets and control of costs.

\xc2\xb7 Work on the preparation of pricing documents and pre-tender documentation including understanding supplier selection.

\xc2\xb7 Assist in general commercial management on a day-to-day basis working with project teams. This will include reviewing site records for to mitigate / resolve disputes.

You will ideally have

\xc2\xb7 A record of good time keeping.

\xc2\xb7 Ability to work to deadlines.

\xc2\xb7 Good problem-solving skills.

\xc2\xb7 Ability to communicate effectively.
