Programme which is divided into three parts so is the perfect opportunity for you to gain
hands-on experience, earn a salary, and achieve a recognised qualification.
Part 1
- you will receive an induction and training across a range of themes to support you to learn the skills you need to do the job well. You will be supported to apply to the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) to gain your professional registration.
Part 2
- you will be supported to go to college weekly as part of your working duties to study a qualification required for your professional registration.
Part 3
- you will complete your qualification and receive support to consider your next steps in a career in health and social care which may include continuing further education to diploma or degree level or to secure a permanent position in any of the roles available.

What You'll Be Doing!
As a Care Apprentice, you'll be part of the Health & Social Care Partnership, employed by Fife Council working across Fife. Working 36 hours per week over a variety of shifts predominantly days and evenings and you may want to experience night shifts. All our shifts include day release to college.
You could be placed in one of two service types that are building based, these are:
Our Older People's Service
enables older people to continue to live in their own home with support but also offers an alternative home in one of our 8 care homes when people's care journey means that they cannot continue to do so.
Adult Services Resources, Accommodation with Care and Support
which provides care and support to adults 16+, who have a learning disability, physical disability or mental health condition living in the community.
Alternatively, our Care at Home Service
supports people across Fife to live safely and independently in their own homes. A key element of this is
MECS - the Mobile
Emergency Care Service
. Operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, MECS responds to urgent calls in the community, including falls, personal care, welfare checks, or when someone becomes unwell at home. MECS staff are trained to assess situations quickly, using specialised equipment, provide reassurance, deliver hands-on support, and escalate concerns to health or social care professionals when needed. Their work is vital in ensuring people receive the right help at the right time

The Person
You could study the Advanced Certificate for Careers in Care incorporating SVQ 2 Social Services and Healthcare SCQF 6
. The course is the benchmark qualification requirement for the role and includes two National Progression Certificates in Communication and Safeguarding, one National Certificate in Dementia studies and incorporates the Academic Study skills framework which underpins the knowledge requirements needed for the SVQ. This course requires attendance at Fife College and is funded by the Scottish Funding Council.

You could study
the Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Social Services at SCQF 7
which includes both practical and theoretical work and you will be supported to attend at Fife College. The course is funded by Students Award Agency Scotland (SAAS) and delivered by Fife College. This qualification is accepted by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) for registration requirements. Entry requirements apply. This course is a progression pathway to Diploma and then Degree level.

Before confirming to your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.
As this role requires SSSC registration, the successful applicant will have three months to apply for registration.
