Iceland is seeking motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join our established in?house refrigeration team as Apprentice Refrigeration Engineers. With over 27 years of experience managing refrigeration across our UK-wide store network, Iceland offers a stable and supportive environment for individuals starting their engineering careers.

Role Overview

As an Apprentice Refrigeration Engineer, you will receive comprehensive training and hands?on experience to develop the skills required to maintain and repair refrigeration systems within our retail estate. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking a long-term career in engineering, with clear progression routes and structured development.

Key Responsibilities

During the apprenticeship programme, you will be supported to learn how to:


Assist in the maintenance, service, and repair of refrigeration equipment including freezer units, display cases, cold rooms, chillers, and condensers. Support diagnostic activities using industry-standard monitoring systems. Develop an understanding of refrigeration principles, electrical components, and mechanical systems. Apply safe working practices in line with Health & Safety, F?Gas regulations, and company standards. Communicate professionally with store teams to ensure efficient scheduling and minimal disruption. Maintain accurate documentation and service records as part of operational compliance. Achieve industry recognised qualifications.

Candidate Requirements

We welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds. Ideal candidates will demonstrate:


Interest in engineering, problem?solving, or technical work. A willingness to learn, strong work ethic, and reliability. Good communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work independently once trained. A full UK driving licence (or evidence of working towards one).

Applicants with previous technical experience, including ex?Forces personnel, are encouraged to apply, though no prior refrigeration experience is required.
