Salary: PAYE: 33.60 per hour | Umbrella: 44.37 per hour
Are you an experienced Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) with a passion for safeguarding vulnerable adults? NRW People is excited to offer a temporary AMHP role in Newport. Starting 6 October 2025, this 6-week position supports a one-off event/project, offering a part-time opportunity to make a significant impact on mental health care in the community.
What You'll Do:

  • Undertake statutory Mental Health Act (MHA) assessments, coordinating the process and considering least restrictive options for admission.
  • Chair multi-disciplinary team (MDT) assessments in hospital and community settings, bringing a social perspective to complex cases.
  • Provide expert mental health advice to services like the Home Treatment Team and Liaison Psychiatry, supporting adults with mental health needs.
  • Manage referrals in safeguarding cases, assessing and planning interventions while ensuring lawful use of compulsory powers.
  • Work flexibly, including outside core hours (9:00 - 17:00, with potential to extend), and participate in tribunals or Community Treatment Orders (CTO) as needed.
What We're Looking For:
  • A qualified Social Worker (e.g., Degree in Social Work or DipSW) with AMHP qualification, registered with the Care Council for Wales.
  • Strong decision-making skills, with experience in risk assessment, safeguarding, and navigating complex mental health cases.
  • Ability to work part-time (16 hours) and travel for community assessments, with excellent communication and autonomy.
  • Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to Newport, South Wales.

  • DBS Summary Form (to be submitted with application).
  • 5 years of references/work history.
  • Signed Confidentiality Agreement (required upon offer acceptance).
