Job Description

As an Aquatics Technician Apprentice, you'll play a hands-on role in the day-to-day care of aquatic animals and assist our experienced team with installations and maintenance services. You'll gain valuable experience in animal husbandry, learn how to work with aquatic and reptile species, and develop technical skills involved in setting up and maintaining aquariums.

You'll work alongside our lead technicians, and over time, you'll build the skills and confidence to attend site visits independently. This role is ideal for someone who loves animals, enjoys practical work, and is looking for a career that offers variety, travel, and progression.

Key responsibilities include:

Assisting with the setup and installation of aquariums. Supporting the maintenance of tanks (cleaning, water testing, and equipment checks). Caring for aquatic animals, reptiles and amphibians (feeding, cleaning, health monitoring). Keep accurate records of animal care and maintenance work. Attending site visits with the team to work on client locations across the UK. Helping to improve, clean, and transport equipment and livestock safely.

Desired skills and qualities

Experience in handling reptiles and aquariums. Basic understanding of animal care or a willingness to learn more. Good communication and teamwork skills. Able to follow instructions and ask questions when needed. Organisational skills for keeping track of tasks, tools, and site visits. Driving licence desirable (or working towards one), as travel will become a key part of the role. Passionate about animals, especially aquatic life and reptiles. Practical, hands-on approach and not afraid to get stuck in. Reliable and punctual, our clients trust us with sensitive, sometimes high-profile projects. Calm and focused under pressure or when working with live animals. Eager to learn new things. Positive attitude and a strong work ethic. Takes pride in delivering a great service.

Desired qualifications

Ideally candidates will already hold some animal care qualification. GCSEs grades A-C/8-4 in English and maths or equivalent desirable but not essential Applicants must not already hold a level 3 or higher in Keeper and Aquarist

Future prospects

The possibility of continued employment once finished for the right candidate. Progression into a fully qualified Aquatics Technician role within the team, with increased pay. Training

Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment. The applicant will be working towards a Level 3 Keeper and Aquarist Apprenticeship The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship. The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship.
