The Opportunity

We're looking for an Area Operations Manager (internally known as Area Manager) to lead and develop the OCL Southern Depot operations across Avonmouth (Bristol), Medway (Kent), and Micheldever (Hampshire). This is a senior, hands-on role where you'll oversee multiple depots, managing operational performance, commercial opportunities, and team development across the region.

You'll split your time between sites, building strong relationships with colleagues and customers, driving cost-effective operations, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards. This is a unique opportunity for someone with experience in recycling, crushing and screening, or related industries to lead a high-performing team while shaping the future of sustainable materials.

What You'll Be Doing

Leading operations across three depots, overseeing depot managers, operations staff, and technical teams. Acting as the senior point of contact for customers, identifying opportunities for new work, cost savings, and service improvements. Driving operational performance, efficiency, and compliance with the Integrated Management System (IMS). Implementing change initiatives and fostering a positive, safety-focused culture across the area. Monitoring revenue, EBIT, and operational KPIs to ensure commercial and operational objectives are met. Managing staff development, recruitment, and performance, ensuring a motivated and competent workforce. Supporting licensing, compliance, and permitting processes, including NEBOSH, WAMITAB, CPCS, and CSCS requirements. Visiting depots regularly, providing on-site leadership, guidance, and support.

Who You Are

Experienced in recycling, waste, or demolition waste operations, ideally with exposure to crushing and screening. Commercially minded, with the ability to identify and act on revenue opportunities, cost efficiencies, and operational improvements. A strong leader, capable of managing multi-site teams and driving change across operations. Knowledgeable in health, safety, environmental, and compliance requirements, with relevant qualifications (NEBOSH, WAMITAB, CPCS) desirable. Confident building relationships with customers, colleagues, and senior stakeholders. Flexible and organised, able to split your time effectively between multiple sites while maintaining operational oversight.

We are committed to building a diverse environment and are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. You will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, disability or age.
