Job Description

As an Area Sales Engineer, you will aid the growth of Michell Bearings' presence across Southern Europe., primarily France and Spain, by building relationships with industrial and marine customers, generating and converting opportunities, and ensuring seamless handover into the business for successful delivery.





Expect regular travel in-territory (typically around 8 weeks per year) and close collaboration with internal technical, estimating and project teams.

What you'll be doing

Visit and develop accounts across Southern Europe (France and Spain), managing all customer activity in-territory. Establish direct communication lines with decision-makers; promote Michell products and services. Secure tender opportunities and convert tenders into orders. Capture technical and commercial requirements; translate into clear product specifications. Build quotations: assemble component pricing for standard products and estimate works costs using price lists, historic performance and comparative estimation. Liaise with the Estimating Team for non-standard applications and convert outputs into accurate quotations. Conduct initial review of customer Terms & Conditions and lead contract negotiations. Ensure export licence control compliance where required. Participate in detailed technical and commercial reviews; compile robust internal contract packs. Assist with project management of won orders within the territory. Adhere to departmental and company procedures during tendering and order processing. Work safely and comply with company HSE policies. Note: Responsibilities may evolve and are not limited to the above.

Who we're looking for

We are seeking a commercially astute engineer who thrives at the customer-technology interface. The successful candidate holds a recognised engineering qualification (HNC or above - ideally mechanical), reads and interprets mechanical drawings and specifications with confidence, and communicates clearly in writing and in person. They are comfortable travelling domestically and internationally, appreciate different business cultures, and hold a valid driving licence. Experience with rotating machinery for industrial and marine markets is advantageous, as is familiarity with commercial terms and conditions and export licence controls.





They are numerate, accurate and detail focused, able to work independently while collaborating effectively across estimating, engineering and project teams. They bring a flexible, can do attitude, take ownership of new tasks, and maintain momentum from lead generation through to order handover. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and an ERP system is required. French and Spanish language skills are beneficial (most communication is in English), and they are willing to work additional hours and travel as business needs dictate.
