Art & DT Technician - Provide Essential Technical and Practical Support for a Thriving Creative Arts Faculty - Newham
An ambitious and structured secondary school in Newham requires a highly capable Art and Design Technology Technician committed to maintaining a safe, well-resourced, and stimulating practical learning environment from January 2026.

The role involves providing essential, comprehensive technical support to the Art and Design & Technology faculties across KS3-KS5.
Key Responsibilities and Duties * Preparation and Provision: Preparing and setting up specialized equipment, tools, and materials for practical lessons in Art (painting, sculpture, printmaking) and DT (wood, metal, polymer, textiles).
  • Machinery and Maintenance: Undertaking routine maintenance, cleaning, and basic repair of machinery (lathes, saws, drills, laser cutters, 3D printers) in the DT workshops, and maintaining specialized Art equipment (kilns, printing presses).
  • Health and Safety: Ensuring all equipment and workshops comply with Health and Safety and COSHH regulations. Assisting the Head of Faculty in completing and maintaining Risk Assessment documentation.
  • Stock Control: Monitoring, managing, and ordering stock and supplies for both departments, managing the budget for consumables, and maintaining a detailed inventory of tools and equipment.
  • Classroom Support: Providing technical advice and assistance to teaching staff and students during practical lessons, ensuring the safe and effective use of tools and equipment.
  • Display and Presentation: Assisting with the mounting, preparation, and installation of student artwork for internal displays, moderation, and school exhibitions.
Experience and Qualifications
  • Relevant technical qualification or experience in a field related to Art, Design, Engineering, or Fabrication.
  • Proven practical experience with basic workshop machinery (saws, drills, hand tools) and Art-specific media (e.g., ceramics, paint mixing).
  • Strong organizational skills and proven ability to manage complex stock and equipment inventories.
  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, particularly relating to machinery and hazardous materials in a school environment.
