Art Ect Cambridge

Cambridge, United Kingdom

Job Description

A vibrant, forward-thinking Good-rated secondary school in Cambridge is seeking a committed and highly motivated Art ECT to join their Creative Arts department for an immediate start. This is an exceptional opportunity for a trainee teacher who is ready to begin their induction in a school that offers genuine care, thoughtful support, and a collaborative culture that allows early career teachers to develop with confidence and clarity.
About the Role
As an Art ECT, you will teach Art across KS3 and KS4, delivering high-quality lessons that support creativity, personal expression, and technical skill development. You will work closely with an established team who share resources, plan collaboratively, and regularly reflect on curriculum sequencing to ensure Art remains engaging and meaningful for all learners.
Your responsibilities will include:
Teaching Art theory and practical skills across a range of media
Supporting sketchbook development and GCSE portfolio preparation
Creating a stimulating studio environment that celebrates student work
Contributing to extra-curricular art clubs, exhibitions, and school events
Working with your mentor weekly to reflect on practice and plan progress
Following a structured ECT induction programme aligned with national expectations
The department is known for its strength in mixed media, printmaking, painting, and digital illustration, giving you a broad platform to build your teaching repertoire.

Dedicated prep room and art technician support
Strong focus on wellbeing and realistic workload expectations
A leadership team that prioritises transparency, open communication, and teacher development
Students enjoy Art and respond positively to practical, imaginative teaching. The school's pastoral team is strong and proactive, ensuring that teachers are not overwhelmed with behaviour issues or administrative burdens.
For an ECT, this environment provides structure, guidance, and space to grow, without the pressure or chaos found in less supportive settings.
Why This School Is Ideal for an ECT
Weekly mentor meetings that genuinely support growth
Timetabled ECT release for reflection and professional development
A culture of kindness, patience, and shared purpose
A supportive Head of Art who provides clear expectations and accessible guidance
Opportunities to take creative initiative and contribute your artistic identity
This is a school where new teachers thrive, not merely cope.
