Art Ect – Cambridge

Cambridge, United Kingdom

Job Description

Are you completing your PGCE in Art & Design and looking for a nurturing, structured and professionally fulfilling school to begin your teaching career? A well-established Good-rated secondary school in Cambridge is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Art ECT to join their thriving Creative Arts faculty for an immediate or September start. This exciting full-time role offers the perfect environment for a new teacher to develop confidence, refine their practice, and grow into a well-rounded practitioner within a department that deeply values creativity, technique and artistic expression.
About the Role
You will be teaching Art across KS3-KS4, delivering lessons that inspire students to explore a range of artistic media, experiment with different visual languages, and develop the foundational skills needed for success in coursework and beyond. The department uses structured, well-resourced schemes of work but encourages ECTs to bring their own artistic identity, whether that be drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, digital design or textiles.
You will work closely with a supportive Head of Art and a friendly wider faculty who are highly experienced in supporting ECTs. Weekly mentoring sessions, developmental observations, reduced timetable allocations, collaborative planning sessions and shared assessment frameworks ensure you are never left navigating your induction alone.
Beyond the classroom, you will have the opportunity to support:
GCSE coursework preparation and portfolio development
School exhibitions and showcases
Art clubs, enrichment sessions and creative workshops
Cross-curricular projects and community arts initiatives
School Information
The school has a strong reputation for being inclusive, well-organised and genuinely supportive of staff wellbeing. Behaviour is consistently managed through a clear, whole-school system which allows teachers to focus on delivering high-quality learning. Students are respectful, curious and responsive when lessons are structured and engaging.
The Art department benefits from:
A large, naturally lit studio space
Dedicated storage and drying racks for projects
Access to specialist equipment for printmaking, photography and mixed media
Digital tools for editing and presentation
A culture that celebrates student artwork throughout the school
Leadership is approachable and invested in ECT success, recognising that early career teachers thrive when they are supported, challenged, and trusted.
