The Role :
A fantastic opportunity is available for a proactive and committed Art Teacher to join an established and specialist SEN school serving the Thetford area.
This position is crucial to the provision of high-quality, personalised education. You will be responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering an engaging and differentiated art curriculum to small classes of pupils with a range of complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and associated complex needs. Your creative efforts will directly contribute to fostering social, emotional, and fine motor development in a stable, inclusive, and enriching environment.
Key Responsibilities

• Design and deliver an accessible and engaging Art curriculum that is fully differentiated and tailored to meet the targets set out in students' Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
• Create a therapeutic and structured classroom environment, managing sensory input and ensuring all students feel safe to express themselves creatively.
• Utilise a wide range of media and techniques to engage all learners, focusing on process over product, and employing adaptive strategies (e.g., use of switches, specialised tools) as necessary.
• Collaborate closely with Teaching Assistants and multi-disciplinary teams (e.g., Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists) to integrate therapeutic goals into art lessons.
• Manage classroom behaviour effectively, employing positive behaviour support and calm de-escalation techniques appropriate for students with communication and emotional regulation difficulties.
• Contribute to the monitoring and accurate reporting on pupil progress, documenting both artistic skill development and holistic gains in communication, concentration, and emotional well-being.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential, along with a degree or specialist training in Art or a related subject.
• Proven experience teaching Art across key stages, with recent experience or a strong understanding of working within a specialist SEN setting or with pupils with complex learning difficulties.
• A naturally calm, compassionate, and highly adaptable nature, with a genuine enthusiasm for the specialist educational environment.
• The ability to quickly establish strong, professional, and trusting relationships with pupils who may struggle with social interaction.
• Excellent teamwork, communication, and organisational skills.
• A current Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or a willingness to obtain one promptly).
