Teaching Assistant (Art Focus) Southampton
Prospero Teaching are looking for a creative and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming specialist school in Southampton. The setting provides a supportive and engaging environment for young people with a range of special educational needs, including autism (ASC), social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, and moderate learning difficulties.
The school is particularly keen to find someone with a passion for art who can use creative approaches to inspire pupils and support their emotional and educational development.
The Role

  • Support students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping them to access learning and reach their full potential.
  • Use art and creativity to engage students and encourage self-expression.
  • Assist teachers in adapting resources and delivering lessons that meet diverse needs.
  • Promote independence, confidence, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff to ensure consistent care and support.
Requirements
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN (desirable).
  • A background or keen interest in art, design, or creative practice.
  • Patience, empathy, and a nurturing attitude.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to supporting learning.
  • Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).

  • Position: Teaching Assistant (Art Focus)
  • Location: Southampton
  • Type of Work: Supporting students with SEN, incorporating art-based activities
  • Contract Type: Full-time, long-term supply (potential for permanent placement)
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Hours: 08:30-15:30, Monday to Friday (term time only)
  • Training Provided: Ongoing SEN and safeguarding training available through Prospero Teaching
