The Art Room in Royston is looking for friendly, confident, and creative

Freelance Art Tutors

to run engaging art sessions for small groups. This is a great opportunity for practising artists, illustrators, art graduates, or experienced workshop facilitators who enjoy teaching and inspiring others in a relaxed studio environment.

About the Role

As a tutor at The Art Room, you would work on a

freelance basis

, meaning you are responsible for your own tax and accounting. We offer sessions on an

ad-hoc basis

, and you are always free to accept or decline a booking depending on your availability.

Most classes take place at

weekends

, with the busiest period running from

March to December

. Tutors based in or near Royston will receive more regular booking opportunities, while those based further away may receive occasional work.

Before accepting a class, you must ensure:

You can

reliably travel

to the studio at the agreed time (please check transport/fuel routes in advance). You have

no other commitments

that would impact your ability to deliver the session.

Pay & Travel Allowance

50

per 90-minute class

Travel allowance

added on top (our contribution towards fuel, parking, tolls, or public transport) No need to submit receipts - you simply calculate your travel allowance and invoice us Payment is made via

BACS or PayPal

within

10 working days

of submitting your invoice
Before accepting a booking, you will need to consider whether the class fee + travel allowance realistically covers your travel and time, as we cannot offer additional expenses.

What We're Looking For

Confident, approachable, and organised individuals Artists with experience in drawing, painting, mixed media, or similar disciplines Comfortable leading small groups with clear and encouraging instruction Reliable and professional, with good communication skills Able to work independently and follow our workshop guidelines DBS Check (preferred but you will be DBS checked for the role too)

Deliver fun and accessible art sessions for adults or children Create a positive, welcoming atmosphere Arrive in plenty of time to set up and prepare Represent The Art Room with professionalism and enthusiasm
