Principle Purpose of Post




To deliver the tuition of 2 x 12-week Art Explorers course for children and young people, as part of MAC's Learning & Participation programme,

starting in Autumn 2025.




We are looking for someone who is passionate about the arts and informal learning experiences and enjoys teaching Art courses and workshops.


You are required to be reliable, personable, and flexible, to cater for each student's personal goals and aims.


Midlands Arts Centre's Learning and Participation programme is extensive with around 150 term courses and a wide selection of short courses for children, young people, and adults. Our courses cover many subjects, from visual arts and crafts to digital arts, performance, music, and wellbeing.


The successful candidate will be part of a large team of Artist Tutors who help us deliver a vibrant and dynamic programme of informal learning.

Overall Job Purpose




We are looking for a passionate art tutor to deliver two popular Under 18 art courses on the term program.


You will be responsible for:

Devising clear lesson plans and course structure to enable progression of learning, and the ability to adapt to each participant needs. Ensuring the course is delivered as per the course description. Teaching a range of exciting and creative beginner art techniques. Preparation ahead of the course for equipment and technical requests liaising with the Learning Team. Continuous reflection and evaluation on the course, and quality of delivery. Work within MAC's policies with specific attention to Safeguarding and Health & Safety.

Additional responsibilities as follows:



You will need to devise a clear course structure to enable progression of learning, and the ability to adapt to each participant's needs. Teaching students to the agreed level for the course (eg, beginner/ improver/advanced). Preparation ahead of the course for equipment and technical requests by liaising with the Learning Team. Continuous reflection and evaluation on the course, and quality of delivery. Work within MAC's policies with specific attention to Safeguarding and Health & Safety.

Art Explores Junior CH07



Saturday mornings 9:30-12:00 6-10 years old All Levels Maximum 12 participants On this course, children will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of different artistic materials, learn new creative techniques and develop their existing skills.

Art Explores for Young People YP108



Saturday afternoons 12:30-3:00 11-15 years old All Levels Maximum 12 participants On this course, young people will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of different artistic materials, learn new creative techniques and develop their existing skills. Perfect for progression from our junior course, or for complete beginners.

Note



This course will run on Saturdays throughout the academic year at the times listed. The new tutor will take over the course after October Half-Term. First date-

to the end of term. The Spring Term 2026 starts w/c Monday 5th January 2026. The Summer Term starts w/c Monday 13th April 2026. We expect the successful candidate to attend an induction session at MAC before they start.

Education





Bachelor's degree or professional certification in a relevant subject such as art, fine art, mixed media etc.

Professional Experience





Minimum 3 years as a practicing visual artist. Experience of delivering art activities to Under 18s

Experience of visual arts tuition in an education or studio setting. Experience of working with adults and/or children with additional needs and/or vulnerable adults.

Knowledge





Proven understanding of working with a range of art materials and equipment.
Knowledge of visual arts practice nationally and internationally.

Skills & Abilities





Punctual and reliable. Proven ability to communicate well with a range of people using varied communication methods. A skilled facilitator who can inspire participants to achieve their creative potential. Good written communication and administration skills, responding to offers of work in a timely manner.

Passionate and committed to supporting creative learning. Understanding and supportive of MAC's mission. Personable and approachable to participants.
