Job Description

As an asbestos removal operative, you will be required to assist in the removal of non-licenced asbestos items such as asbestos cement roof sheets, vinyl floor tiles, textured ceilings, bitumen products etc. This involves the careful removal of materials under controlled conditions whilst wearing a respirator and personal protective equipment. You must be clean shaven for this role to wear a respirator. The waste must then be carefully wrapped in polythene or asbestos waste sacks and then the area fully cleaned. The waste must then be transported to a waste disposal site. The role does not involve working with the more fibrous (licenced) asbestos materials.

The post holder will attend various sites to complete one or more of the duties mentioned above. The post holder may be required to drive a company van to and from site. The post holder will assist a senior member of staff and work under supervision at all sites.

Work is sometimes required in odd parts of buildings such as boiler rooms, roof voids, underground ducts and other enclosed spaces and would not suit any person who suffers from claustrophobia, or is unable to climb ladders.

The position is based on an annual salary of 26,000 for a 40-hour working week, rising to 27,000 after the initial three months experience. Salary will be negotiable for applicants with asbestos-related qualifications and previous experience. You will be expected to clock in at the Wellington Office and clock out when finished. Payment will be made monthly by BACS. The company offers 4 weeks paid leave per year plus all nationally recognised Bank Holidays. The position holder will be able to join the company pension scheme upon completion of a three-month probation period, if they so wish.

The company will expect the post holder to be hardworking and work well as part of a team. Future progression opportunities may be available for the right candidates into other departments within the company such as asbestos surveying or asbestos air testing roles.
