Scotland's Railway covers a large geographical area from the Borders to Thurso at the far tip of the North East of Scotland, accounting for almost 20 per cent of the UK rail network. We provide rapid access along busy commuter routes to our seven cities, servicing the varied needs of our business and leisure commuter services, including cross border services and rural services. We have up to 50 freight services operating every day and we are steadily building capacity for this to grow.

Brief Description
The Engineering & Asset Management function of Scotland's railway focuses on the provision of a high calibre engineering service that underpins the delivery of a safe, high performing railway network. Managing our infrastructure and assets also needs to be carefully planned, aligning objectives and activities which are delivered efficiently and sustainably, within budget.
Trusted, timely and insightful reporting and analysis of business performance and asset management data is key to supporting decision making across Engineering & Asset Management and this role provides an opportunity to play a key part in the improvement of our reporting process.
The successful candidate will support the delivery of key Engineering & Asset Management periodic reporting packs, including data refresh, validation and analysis for regional forums such as governance meetings. Through analysis of data such as asset failures and project progress, you'll identify trends and emerging risks, contributing to insights provided to key stakeholders and following up on actions raised to address emerging risks. Using products such as Microsoft Power Platform, you'll build and enhance reports to provide analysis and insights. You'll also contribute to the development of tools to automate or improve repeatable processes, making them simpler, faster, and more reliable; ultimately improving asset reliability, safety, efficiency and customer outcomes.
About the role (External)
Here are some of the duties your role will include: -

• Support the provision of a business management information, analysis and reporting service within Engineering & Asset Management. Produce analysis and reporting of business and asset management information including asset failures and progress against regulatory milestones.
• Review the reporting and classification of infrastructure asset failures and incidents for consistency and accuracy. Monitor actions arising and ensure they are close out in a timely manner.
• Support the development and analysis of key leading & lagging performance indicators and equipment reliability analysis of assets to support achievement of Network Rail's goals.
• Undertake investigations and analysis to support identification and justification of recommendations for asset reliability, installation and maintenance improvements throughout the asset lifecycle process.
• Provide input to formal investigations, standards reviews and standards briefing as required.
• Provide specialist infrastructure asset analysis and requested services to other groups.
• Deliver new and enhanced tools and reports to improve business processes within time, quality and cost parameters.

What you will bring to the role: -

• Good analytical skills, including the use of statistical techniques, associated computer systems and effective presentation of results
• HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject
• Experience of working with asset systems and processes
• Understanding of railway assets behaviour, including performance issues, degradation, reliability and failure modes
• Understanding of asset management principles
• Good attention to detail and a systematic approach to work

It's desirable if you have it to help give you context to the role: -

• Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject
• Working towards Chartered Engineer status
• Experience of working in a safety critical role
• Experience of assurance activities
