Job Category: Finance:OverviewWe are looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our team for a 12 month FTC. You will play an important role within the Group Transport Finance Team focusing on the reconciliation of our backhauls to our customers central summaries. Within this proactive role you will support the operational & financial running of the business, ensuring management accounts processes are adhered to. You will challenge current processes and ways of working, championing continuous improvement across the wider team.As a function we bring together the day to day commercial & financial running of transport with the strategic controls to maximise the value that we bring to our customers and the wider group.The role is based at our Sainsburys distribution centre in Northampton. After initial training the role will be hybrid, with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.How will you contribute?

  • Responsible for weekly reconciliations of Wincanton Backhaul to Sainsbury's central summaries; identifying anomalies in kilometre's / hours reported to ensure accuracy of weekly Wincanton Backhaul stats reported across all sites.
  • Responsible for processing weekly internal cross charges between Wincanton contracts.
  • Single point of contact for BAU Finance colleagues to raise issues and provide reporting solutions.
  • Communicate and collaborate with Wincanton Invoicing team to ensure queries are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Support in reduction of bad debt / overdue customer accounts.
  • Provide support for annual rate reviews to Backhaul lanes & ensure ongoing profitability.
  • Communicate effectively keeping our stakeholders well informed of any risks or opportunities within the P&L.
  • Resolving & escalating site finance and operations queries on the backhaul P&L.
  • Provide accurate reporting to demonstrate Backhaul profitability to Wincanton & the customer.

  • Experience from a similar role.
  • Have excellent PC skills, in particular Excel
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to comprehend large data sets
  • Self-starter who possesses excellent time management, self-motivation and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrate drive, energy, and a commitment to the continuous improvement of overall contract performance.
  • Able to travel across sites as required.
