Job Overview



Feral Folk Coffee is looking for an assistant manager to support the manager/owner in running a busy mobile catering van in Victoria Park in Bristol.

We are looking for someone that is warm, welcoming and full of life to work both independently and alongside the manager to deliver an excellent, friendly, high-quality offering to the park. The role would suit someone that has an interest in developing a sense of community along with a passion for great quality food and drink and a love of the outdoors.

The role will involve both week day and weekend work with a fortnightly shift pattern equating to 50 hours over two weeks-30 hours week one, 20 hours week two. A 30 hour week contract could be considered for the right candidate. As the business develops, more hours may also be available if that is of interest.

Please note this role involves driving the catering van and therefore requires the appointed candidate to be a confident driver with a full clean UK driving licence held for a minimum of two years (for insurance purposes). Training in driving the van will be provided but previous driving experience is essential.

Role Responsibilities



To work in collaboration with the manager to lead the day-to-day operations of the mobile catering van. This will involve working independently to run the van on a shared rota with the manager. Provide warm and welcoming customer service, with a focus on developing connections and maintaining the positive community atmosphere that is important to the business. Prepare and serve high quality coffee and hot drinks, with a focus on attention to detail and consistency. Prepare and serve a simple but high quality hot food offering of toasties, breakfast sandwiches and other items as required. Maintain excellent standards of food hygiene and safety and ensure that the whole team adheres to these standards at all times. Ensure the catering van is kept to a high standard of cleanliness, ensuring the whole team adheres to agreed cleaning schedules. Assist the manager with undertaking orders, receiving and processing deliveries and stock management. Supervise other team members on shift, offering support and guidance to ensure their roles and responsibilities are completed to a high standard. Drive the catering van to and from the park, ensuring the van is kept clean and tidy, is driven responsibly and any maintenance requirements are reported to the manager promptly. Assist the manager in marketing the mobile catering van including contributing to social media, promoting reviews and advertising. Work with the manager to monitor profit and loss and have an interest and desire to increase sales and make a success of a growing small business. Work closely with the manager to work on a programme of events to further foster the community engagement and introduce new sources of revenue.

Skills and Experience



A passion for high quality coffee, excellent barista skills and the drive to serve coffee and all drinks to a consistently high standard. A passion for the food and drink offering and a willingness to contribute to the development of the menu. A genuine desire to provide excellent customer service, providing customers with a welcoming atmoshpere. Experience in a hospitality setting with a high quality coffee offering Previous management experience is not essential but the ability to demonstrate excellent leadership skills and the willingness to learn is.

Essential Requirements



Full UK, Clean driving licence

held for a minimum of two years.



Previous Barista experience and excellent coffee preparation skills

Ability to work regular weekends on a rota basis (usually 2 weekends a month but flexibility may be required at times) as well as each Wednesday (see proposed shift pattern below).

A good knowledge of food safety and allergen management systems. Food Safety Level 2 is desirable but training will be provided as part of the induction.
