The Chief Constables are seeking to appoint an Assistant Chief Constable will work alongside both chief officer teams to deliver the vision and mission of both forces.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced senior police officers for this demanding position.

The Chief Constables seek an exceptional candidate who can demonstrate their strategic leadership of complex and high profile operations and a track record of successfully leading complex and varied police functions. The successful candidate will:

  • Take responsibility for Joint Protective Services and Criminal Justice Command
  • Have strong leadership to communicate a consistent and inspiring vision to all
  • Work in tandem across both forces in Norfolk and Suffolk
The appointment will be subject to vetting and medical clearances and to the provisions of the relevant Police Acts, Regulations and Determinations. The successful applicant can apply to hold the role within either Norfolk or Suffolk and the terms and conditions of the appointment will be the same.

Eligibility Criteria

Prior education & experience:
  • Successful completion of the Senior Police National Assessment Centre (PNAC) and the Strategic Command Course (SCC) or currently undertaking the Police Executive Leadership Programme (PELP).
  • Recent experience of strategic command of complex high threat / harm incidents and significant organisational challenges.
  • A demonstrable track record of successful experience of working at a strategic level, including the leadership of law enforcement officers and staff.
  • Experience of successfully engaging with and influencing multi-agency partnerships.
  • Recent experience of delivering strong operational performance for the benefit of the public across multiple police functions. Experience of implementing successful organisational development, change and innovation.
  • Evidence of leading cultural change in a complex and matrixed environment through an agile and adaptive leadership style based on a values foundation of inclusivity.
  • Experience of management of significant budgets and delivering value for money services.
  • Knowledge of developing political, economic, social, technological, legal, and environmental factors and an understanding of the implications for strategic planning.
  • Knowledge of relevant local, regional, and national policies, strategies and initiatives and an understanding of the implications within the policing context.
