The Bermuda Monetary Authority (Authority or BMA) is seeking the services of a skilled and capable individual to work as an Assistant Director in our Supervision (FinTech) Department. Reporting to the Chief FinTech Officer, the Assistant Director will be responsible for ensuring that the Department undertakes professional FinTech services in relation to licensing and supervision of regulated entities, development of sectoral policies and frameworks, the building of thought leadership and collaboration with foreign regulators and international bodies. This role is focused on expertise in FinTech trends and developments as well as the ability to be an enabling leader within the organisation.
This is a key role for the Authority and the post-holder will be responsible for but not limited to:
Leading efforts on cross-departmental collaboration for activities inclusive of joint application reviews, supervision, and thought leadership development
Ensuring the effective delivery of the Department's licensing and supervisory activities
Conducting meetings and acting as a key liaison with company officials and other relevant external stakeholders to convey related subject matters in accordance with the appropriate laws and regulations
Assisting in the development of sectoral policies and amendments as required
Leading the coordination of projects to develop and enhance departmental procedures
Researching and identifying best practices to inform while developing and adapting the risk framework and risk models to ensure that the BMA is on the cutting edge
Managing department risk reviews and liaising with the Enterprise Risk Management function
Assisting with the development of timely budgets for the effective management of the department, ensuring that controls are in place to monitor the operations and provide accountability for expenses in keeping with the goals and objectives of the BMA
Collaborating with foreign regulators and international bodies related to FinTech
Providing general support to the senior advisor in the leadership of the Department
Performing other related work and special projects as assigned by the Executive in accordance with competencies normally associated with the post
This position requires a proven technical and business background. Therefore, the post-holder should have:
A master's degree or equivalent learning and qualifications in blockchain, finance and technology from a recognised institution or professional body
A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience, of which at least five (5) years should be at a senior level in the financial services business, and/or working experience with a financial regulatory body with specific emphasis on digital assets, blockchain or other FinTech related technologies
Sound understanding and knowledge of international financial services regulations and emerging technologies and trends
Superior judgement, communication, and leadership skills with a collaborative and diplomatic approach to work
Ability to lead large innovation projects with a multitude of organisational and market stakeholders
Experience in managing teams in an agile environment
