Ringway Jacobs is seeking an enthusiastic and driven Assistant Engineer to join our Development Management team on the Essex Highways Integrated Services contract, in partnership with Essex County Council.



You will support the technical assurance of developer-led highway schemes, ensuring that new and improved infrastructure is adoptable and complies with County Council policies.


This role is ideal for an early-career engineer seeking growth within a high-performing team, gaining hands-on experience in highway planning and delivery.

The Role


Support the technical review of developer designs for highways, ensuring alignment with planning conditions. Assist with local planning consultations and prepare technical input as required. Attend meetings and respond promptly to on-site queries with a solution-focused approach. Coordinate effectively with internal teams and external partners, including district councils and developers. Support the preparation and progression of Section 38 and Section 278 legal agreements. Collaborate with partners within Essex Highways and external stakeholders to maintain clear visibility of the programme. Promote Health & Safety positively and constructively, aiming to minimise work-related injuries by implementing relevant policies and procedures. Provide general support to Senior Engineers across the service.

About You


HNC/Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent practical experience. Some exposure to Highway Engineering and development planning preferred. Familiarity with the Highway Act 1980 and CDM regulations desirable. An awareness of Health and Safety legislation. Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). Full UK driving licence (site visits required).
