The role is based in a glass production factory, where precision, safety, and efficiency are critical. The Assistant Engineer will play a key role in maintaining and optimising the performance of machinery used in glass processing, handling, cutting, and assembly.

Qualifications:
Degree in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred.
College qualifications acceptable and related courses include:
o BTEC certificate in operations and maintenance engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering (or in a related field).
o City & Guilds certificate in engineering (or in a related field).
o NVQ qualifications - engineering maintenance and installation Level 2, Process Engineering Maintenance levels 2 and 3, engineering maintenance level 3 (or in a related field).
Responsibilities:
Work within a glass manufacturing factory, supporting the smooth operation of glass processing and production lines
Plan and undertake scheduled maintenance on the machinery used in glass production
Carry out quality inspections to identify wear patterns and prevent equipment failure
Respond to and diagnose machine breakdowns; provide preventive maintenance services
Fit new parts and ensure machines are running to specification
Supervise engineering and technical staff
Liaise with manufacturers and servicing companies for glass machinery and factory equipment
Obtain and manage specialist components, fixtures, and fittings specific to glass processing
Maintain accurate statistical and financial records for machine performance and maintenance
Ensure full compliance with health and safety regulations within the glass manufacturing environment
Create and follow preventive maintenance procedures
Manage stock of tools, parts, and maintenance equipment
Handle emergencies and unplanned problems with minimal disruption to production
Operate and troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLCs) used in factory automation
Keep production managers informed of maintenance and engineering progress
Conduct scheduled electrical maintenance and troubleshoot faults on all electrical systems
Recommend system upgrades and enhancements to improve productivity and efficiency
Maintain a safe working environment, particularly around high-temperature glass equipment
Contribute to improving the factory's operational efficiency and profitability
Keep up to date with new engineering practices, equipment, and safety protocols
Note:
Shift and 'on-call' work may be required, especially as glass manufacturing operations often run on a 24-hour production cycle.
