Role Summary



Days of Employment:

Normal shift pattern will be Monday-to-Friday (0830-1700hrs); However, the role may also require the postholder to undertake flexible working arrangements to work evenings, weekends, or overtime to meet production deadlines or address urgent issues.

Working Hours:

8.5 hours per day. This includes a 30-minute unpaid break.

Contracted Hours:

40 hours per week.
As the

Assistant Engineering Manager

, you will work in collaboration with the Engineering Manager to deliver the technical and project management aspects of developing and manufacturing our nutraceutical product range. Focusing on day-to-day factory floor service delivery, process development, validation, compliance within regulations, new technology implementation, and budget management; key responsibilities include developing manufacturing processes, ensuring regulatory adherence, managing project lifecycles, allocating resources, and providing technical leadership to engineering teams and other departments.

Focusing on increasing operational productivity and effectiveness, you will manage and oversee the day-to-day maintenance and operation of manufacturing equipment and facilities, ensuring adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety regulations, contributing to process improvement and productivity enhancement, managing engineering projects, overseeing technical documentation, and developing and mentoring the engineering team.

Ultimately, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and safe operation of all equipment and facilities within the production environment.

Key Responsibilities:



Equipment and Facility Management:



Lead the design, implementation, and optimisation of manufacturing processes for our nutraceutical product range to improve efficiency, quality, and yield. Oversee the maintenance and operational efficiency of manufacturing machinery, including blenders, tablet presses, encapsulators, gummy depositors, softgel encapsulators, packaging, labelling, and other specialised equipment. Identify and troubleshoot technical issues within the production line, implementing effective solutions to minimise disruption and maintain output. Support production schedules meet On-Time In-Full (OTIF) demands by managing planned preventative maintenance (PPM), calibration, and repair programs for all engineering equipment and systems. Provide technical guidance and solutions for equipment issues, process challenges, and the development of technical standards and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Support in the develop and maintenance the site's Capital Projects plan and budget. Monitor and control engineering sub-contractors to ensure performance and compliance.

Team Leadership and Support:



Assist the Engineering Manager in achieving departmental goals, deputise for the Manager when absent, and help lead, mentor, and develop the engineering team. Direct and prioritise the activities of the engineering team. Manage engineering team direct reports and their subordinates through the employee lifecycle. Supervise and mentor junior engineers and production teams, providing technical guidance and fostering a collaborative environment. Communicate the product manufacturing vision and strategy to inspire and motivate engineering teams in the successful execution of performance outputs.

Process Improvement:



Implement strategies and initiatives to enhance productivity, optimise resource utilisation, and improve engineering and manufacturing processes. Lead change management for system improvements, minimise cost and increase efficiency.

Regulatory Compliance:



Ensure all engineering activities, documentation, and facility operations comply with stringent nutraceutical standards, GMP, safety, and environmental regulations. Ensure that all activities comply with safety regulations, environmental guidelines, quality, and company policies and procedures. Ensuring compliance with company Human Resources, Health & Safety, Food Safety, Quality, and Hygiene policies and procedures; this may involve monitoring machine settings for product safety and supporting internal audits of standards.

Project Management:



Responsible for the successful implementation of highly technical or involved engineering projects in the creation and development of automatic, semi-automatic and manually controlled production machines, auxiliary equipment, or other items presenting new or constantly changing problems of materials, customer requirements and product uses.

Collaboration:



Work closely with other departments, such as Production, Quality, Product Development, Planning, and Supply Chain to ensure seamless product manufacturing and release. Elevate systemic issues requiring resources beyond the scope of the engineering team.

Skills/Experience/Qualifications



The role of

Assistant Engineering Manager

is multifaceted and requires both industry-specific qualifications and technical abilities. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

Formal Education:



Ideally, bachelor's or master's degree or equivalent qualifications in Engineering or a related field; acceptable disciplines would be mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or industrial engineering. HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) certification and other Food Safety Management System (FSMS) certifications.

Experience:



Proven experience in nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, Food manufacturing environments.

Proven knowledge in the areas of Mechanical, Electrical, and Industrial Engineering, Technical Management, Project Management, and Operations/Production. Experience in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming, and Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV). Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing or production environment. Detailed knowledge of manufacturing equipment and/or processes and of the safety requirements in the maintenance and repair of machinery used in nutraceutical product processing (blenders and mixers, tablet presses, capsule dosing, tablet coating, gummies, softgels, capping, blister packaging, labelling, metal detection). Understanding of food manufacturing legislation & Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP). Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings. Excellent computer literacy and knowledge ERP/MS applications Progressive management experience including leading an engineering or maintenance team. Familiarity with the implementation and maintenance of inhouse Food Management Systems. Knowledge of all phases of project management including architecture and design, electrical, mechanical, structural, life safety for capital equipment, line extensions and process product development. Experience in planning, organising, and executing projects, including resource allocation, timeline management, and risk assessment. Knowledge and experience in implementing and adhering to health and safety regulations.
