Position Overview:
We are seeking a proactive and reliable
Assistant Farm Manager
to support daily operations on our free-range egg farm. This is a hands-on role that involves working closely with the Farm Manager to ensure the smooth running of the farm, the health and welfare of the hens, and the efficient collection and packing of eggs.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with day-to-day management of poultry operations, including feeding, egg collection, grading, and packing
Monitor bird health and welfare, identifying signs of illness or distress and reporting to the Farm Manager or vet when necessary
Maintain high standards of cleanliness and biosecurity across all sheds and ranges
Supervise and support farm staff, including training new workers and monitoring work performance
Assist with maintenance of equipment, sheds, and fencing
Ensure compliance with RSPCA Assured, Red Tractor, or other relevant animal welfare and food safety standards
Operate farm machinery safely and efficiently (tractors, ATVs, etc.)
Record and maintain accurate farm data (e.g., feed usage, egg counts, mortality rates, etc.)
Support the Farm Manager in planning and coordinating farm schedules and production targets
Requirements:
Previous experience working on a poultry or livestock farm (free-range experience preferred)
Strong understanding of animal welfare practices, ideally within a commercial setting
Physically fit and willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Good communication and teamwork skills
Attention to detail and a proactive attitude toward problem-solving
Competency in using basic farm machinery and tools (training can be provided)
Flexibility to work weekends and early mornings on a rotational basis
Valid driving licence (essential); tractor or telehandler licence (preferred)
Desirable Qualifications (Not Essential):
Relevant agricultural or animal husbandry qualifications
First aid training
Certification in animal welfare, food safety, or farm health and safety
