Academics Bristol is seeking a passionate and strategic Assistant Headteacher to join the Senior Leadership Team at a state-funded co-educational secondary school in South Gloucestershire. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of the school community by leading on pastoral care, safeguarding, behaviour, attendance, and inclusion.
As Designated Safeguarding Lead, you will ensure the wellbeing and safety of all pupils while embedding a culture where every student feels valued, supported, and inspired to succeed.
Location: Alveston - BS35
Contract Type: Permanent
Working Pattern: Full Time (1 FTE)
Salary: Paid to scale
In this pivotal leadership position, you will:

• Lead student support systems, ensuring every child has access to life-changing opportunities.
• Oversee behaviour, attendance, and engagement through robust and consistent systems.
• Champion inclusion and implement interventions that remove barriers to learning.
• Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead, taking responsibility for child protection and safeguarding across the school.
• Promote student voice and embed a culture of aspiration, celebration, and reward.
• Teach to an exemplary standard, modelling best practice for staff and students.
• Contribute to strategic planning and self-evaluation alongside the Headteacher and SLT.

We are looking for a visionary and compassionate leader who is:

• Experienced as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or Deputy DSL.
• Skilled in leading whole-school initiatives that deliver measurable impact.
• Knowledgeable about safeguarding legislation, inclusion strategies, and pupil premium.
• Passionate about equity, student welfare, and raising aspirations for all learners.
• A strong communicator who can inspire staff, students, and stakeholders.
• Reflective, pragmatic, and committed to continuous improvement.
• Able to collaborate effectively within a senior leadership team.
