Fast Forward School are currently working through the process of becoming an independent specialist school the school will focus on delivering high-quality education for learners who are unable to thrive in mainstream settings. We support young people with SEND, SEMH, and Speech, Language and Communication Needs through a highly personalised, vocationally focused curriculum that prioritises engagement, wellbeing, and real-world outcomes.
As we continue to grow, we are seeking an Assistant Headteacher with SENCO responsibilities to join our Senior Leadership Team and play a pivotal role in shaping inclusive practice, improving outcomes, and embedding a strong culture of support and aspiration.
The Role
This is a senior leadership position with strategic and operational responsibility for SEND provision across the school, alongside wider Assistant Headteacher duties.
The successful candidate will:
Lead and develop the school's SEND strategy, ensuring compliance with the SEND Code of Practice
Fulfil the statutory duties of the SENCO, including oversight of EHCPs, reviews, and multi-agency working
Work closely with the Headteacher and SLT to drive whole-school improvement
Ensure teaching, learning, and assessment are fully inclusive and responsive to learner need
Champion high-quality provision for learners with SEND particularly within vocational and practical learning environments
Support staff development through coaching, modelling best practice, and targeted CPD
Play a key role in safeguarding, behaviour, and pastoral systems
Contribute to inspection readiness (Ofsted) and regulatory compliance
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a leader who is:
A qualified teacher with substantial experience supporting learners with SEND
A qualified SENCO (or willing to complete the National Award for SEN Coordination if not already held)
Experienced in Alternative Provision, SEND, or specialist education
Confident working with learners who present with SEMH, trauma, and communication needs
A strategic thinker who can balance compliance with creativity and innovation
Passionate about inclusion, relationships, and improving life chances
Leadership experience at middle or senior level is essential.
