Job Details

We have a new contract vacancy for an assistant herdsperson just outside Carmarthen, Wales.

This 450-acre all grass farm has a herd of 250 autumn calving pedigree Holsteins that are milked 2 x per day yielding 9,500 + litres. Cows are milked through a relatively new 16 x 32 Swingover Fullwood parlour with feeders, auto ID, and up-to-date handling facilities. During the winter cows are housed on a mix of sand bedded and mattress cubicles with auto scrapers. All youngstock is retained for replacements, with a contract foot trimmer utilised to do all the routine foot trimming.

The appointed person will be expected to take control in the herd manager\'s absence; milk once per day and look after the youngstock, have an ability to do some TMR feeding, some night checks and have a willingness to learn all aspects of herd management.
