The Assistant Manager at The Top House plays a key role in the day-to-day running of this busy coastal pub. You will support the owners in delivering excellent customer service, managing staff, maintaining high standards, and ensuring smooth operations across front-of-house and bar service. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone passionate about hospitality, teamwork, and creating memorable guest experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Service
Support the owners in the daily operation of the pub
Lead by example on the floor, delivering friendly, efficient, and professional service
Ensure high standards of cleanliness, presentation, and compliance at all times
Handle customer queries and complaints confidently and professionally
Team Leadership
Assist with staff supervision, training, and development
Help to create staff rotas and manage shift cover
Motivate and support the team, especially during busy periods
Ensure staff adhere to company policies and service standards
Stock & Cash Control
Assist with stock ordering, stock rotation, and stocktakes
Monitor wastage and help control costs
Support cash handling procedures and end-of-day processes
Compliance & Safety
Ensure compliance with licensing laws, food safety, and health & safety regulations
Support the enforcement of age-verification policies (Challenge 25)
Report maintenance or safety issues promptly
Business Support
Assist with promotions, events, and seasonal trade initiatives
Support achieving sales targets and improving overall profitability
Step up to manage the pub in the absence of the General Manager
Skills & Experience
Essential
Previous experience in a hospitality supervisory or senior team member role
Strong customer service and communication skills
Ability to lead and motivate a team
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
Good organisational and problem-solving skills
Desirable
Experience in a pub, bar, or food-led environment
Knowledge of cellar management and stock systems
Personal licence (or willingness to work towards one)
Experience in a busy seasonal or tourist location
