We're looking for a proactive and dedicated Assistant Manager to support the General Manager with the day-to-day operations of our leisure facilities. This varied role includes team leadership, programme delivery, facility management, community engagement, and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for all. You'll also lead on a key corporate function such as Health & Safety, Aquatics or Group Fitness, depending on your skills and experience.
What you'll be doing
Supporting the General Manager in the daily operations and administration of the facility
Leading and managing operational teams, including recruitment, development, and performance management
Monitoring and improving programmes and services to meet community needs and financial targets
Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety legislation and organisational procedures
Supporting marketing and promotion of the centre's activities
Handling customer enquiries, complaints and ensuring high levels of service delivery
Maintaining building and equipment security, managing stock, petty cash and financial records
Assisting in planning and delivering events efficiently
Providing occasional cover at other leisure sites as required
We're seeking someone with strong leadership skills, operational experience in a leisure setting, and a passion for delivering high-quality community-focused services. You'll be calm under pressure, organised, and customer-focused, with the ability to motivate a diverse team and manage multiple priorities.
Skills
Essential:
Substantial experience in leisure operations and managing teams
Strong understanding of Health & Safety in leisure environments, especially pools
Ability to plan, organise and lead teams to meet targets and deadlines
Confident communicator with the ability to influence and resolve conflict
Financial and administrative competence (cash handling, audit trails, stock)
Able to interpret data and write reports
Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office
First Aid at Work (or willing to obtain)
Pool Lifeguard Qualification and Pool Plant Operator Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
