ROLE OVERVIEW
PURPOSE OF JOB
The role sits within the Tax Compliance and Regulatory Reporting team comprising of 14 members based in Jersey, Mauritius, British Virgin Islands and the UK London office.
The team handles the preparation, review, and submission of UK (income tax, corporation tax,trust and estate tax compliance, inheritance tax), Jersey, UAE, Guernsey, and Isle of Man (IOM) tax returns for corporates, tax accounting, economic substance, withholding tax reporting, construction industry tax compliance, and tax due diligence in group acquisitions and restructurings for both JTC administered entities.
The role holder will be responsible for supporting the Tax Compliance and Regulatory Reporting with various service lines including preparation and submission to HMRC of UK Trust and Estate Tax Returns using CCH software package, register Trusts on the HMRC Trust Registration Service ("TRS") along with making annual TRS submissions and periodic updates and undertaking UK Inheritance Tax reviews and preparation of associated IHT100 forms.
The successful candidate will also support the Tax Compliance and Regulatory Reporting with the delivery of other tax service lines as and when necessary.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Preparation of UK Trust and Estate Tax returns, calculation of tax payable and submission to HMRC.
Trust Registration Service ("TRS") - completing the online registration process with HMRC and keeping records of all registrations, maintaining central register of Trusts registered and making annual online declarations.
Online reporting of Capital Gains in relate to disposal of UK property.
Appealing penalty notices and dealing with HMRC.
Preparation of UK Inheritance Tax Returns for Trusts ("IHT100"), calculation of tax payable and submission to HMRC.
Assist with Relevant Income and Stockpiled Gains calculations as and when required.
Assist with any other tax service lines e.g. Jersey Corporate and Pension tax returns, Annual Tax on Enveloped Dwellings ("ATED"), Construction Industry Scheme ("CIS") as deemed necessary by Management subject to provision of relevant training.
Check, maintain and ensure accuracy of internal records to ensure deadlines are recorded and subsequently achieved.
Ensure that internal procedures and controls are properly followed.
Adhere to Risk & Associated Compliance procedures in relation to regulatory requirements and AML legislation.
Adhere to CPD requirements in accordance with qualification level and in-house procedures.
Adhere to the JTC core values and expected behaviours.
Review legal and tax advice where appropriate and be able to interpret / implement relevant advice as required.
Ensure a professional service is provided to clients and intermediaries.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Strong attention to detail, self-motivated and able to multi-task.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Experience of working in a tax environment.
Be familiar with CCH or similar tax reporting software package (although full training can be given where necessary).
Professional qualification such as ATT, ACCA, ACA or STEP (part or fully qualified) would be advantageous.
General ability to read and understand financial statements.
