We are Sam's Place, a charity shop on The Broadway in Plymstock. The employer is Sam's Place (Plymouth) Limited, a trading company set up with the sole purpose of giving all its profits to the local branch of Samaritans.
Everyone involved is a part of Plymouth Samaritans and will join the family of over 100 listening, support and shop volunteers we already have. You'll be a part of a big team. More than 20,000 people volunteer their time for Samaritans across Britain and Ireland.
Our vision is that fewer people die by suicide, and it is our mission to make sure there's someone there for anyone who needs someone.
Who are we looking for?
You will be a kind, approachable, organised person capable of multi-tasking. You will be experienced in shop work with either direct retail experience or work experience compatible with the delivery of the Assistant Shop Manager role.
Reporting to the Sam's Place Shop Manager you will be expected to work with and oversee a team of volunteers to deliver the highest standards of customer service and maximise income to pay for the Samaritans' vital service.
You will be self-motivated, experienced in handling money, resilient, and ideally with previous retail and people management experience, as well as the necessary I.T. knowledge to operate the shop's Sales and IT systems.
What are we offering?
The shop is open Monday to Saturday, 9.30 am to 4.30pm, and we expect the Assistant Manager to be on site for 14 hours each week across 2 days, to be agreed with the Shop Manager and in combination with the Shop Manager covering the crucial times and helping our volunteers run the shop.
The equivalent salary for 14 hours is based on the current National Living Wage.
What's the application process?
If you would like to progress an application please contact Norman Holmes by email, briefly explaining why you are applying, attaching your CV, and including the names and contact details of two referees who we can ask to give you a reference - not friends or family. (We will not ask your current employer until we get your permission.)
We will only consider you as an applicant once you have done this.
A DBS check will be undertaken if you are appointed to the role.
