Job Description

We have a terrific opportunity for a motivated, creative Assistant Shop Manager to join our team at our unique shopping experience The Hangar. This is an exciting new opportunity for the business in a much larger unit.

We are looking for a motivated person excited by the retail experience who will support the Hangar's overall operations and profitability by managing volunteers and staff, maintaining high standards of presentation, driving sales, and delivering an outstanding customer experience.

Key duties include visual merchandising, processing donated stock, achieving sales targets, fostering a positive team environment, and upholding the charity's reputation within the local community.

We are ideally looking for someone who is creative and from a charity retail background who can hit the ground running.

We are willing to consider those with proven experience in other retail environments with a real passion and desire to succeed.

To be responsible for the effective operation of the shop with responsibility for:



1) Managing the day to day running of the unit in the Hangar Managers absence.

2) Maximising sales through effective processing.

3) Maintaining effective stock management.

4) Assist training and retaining shop volunteers.

5) Carry out shop administration including daily banking.

6) Ensuring relevant policies and procedures are always adhered to.

Strategic Role as Assistant Manager

1) To assist the Hangar Manager in the operations of the shop but to take full responsibility in the unit managers absence.

2) To propose action to the Hangar Manager for operational improvements.

3) To maintain an awareness of developments in local businesses, especially in the charity sector, updating the Hangar Manager as required.

4) To maintain good channels of communication with donors, clients and colleagues in other Wisdom Hospice Support shops, local communities and organisations.

5) To provide cover for Shop Managers from time to time in other stores (if applicable), as required by your Operations Manager. This would usually be through mutual agreement, although in an emergency you may be asked to cover at short notice.

Optimising Sales



1)To assist the Hangar Manager in meeting agreed sales targets.

2) To assist marketing campaigns and sales promotions to increase sales.

3) To assist in ensuring the unit is competing effectively with local competitors.

4) To ensure all volunteers maintain a high standard of customer care.

5) To assist to promote the store in the local community through initiatives, for example stock appeals.

6) To support and promote our community hub events program.

Maintaining Effective Stock Management & Merchandising



1) To control pricing of items for sale as per agreed guidelines.

2) To ensure the highest possible resale value of donated stock.

3) To apply suitable display, merchandising standards.

4) To help control stock density and rotation.

Volunteer Management & Training



1) To assist in day-to-day responsibility for managing and delegating work to volunteers ensuring satisfactory performance.

2) To assist the Hangar Manager in recruiting volunteers and help with good volunteer training

3) To provide adequate supervision for any volunteers.

4) Help to foster a positive team spirit through assisting the manager with team meetings and social events i.e. Christmas meal, anniversary.

Administration



1) To assist in enforcing Trading Standards Regulations in the unit and ensure volunteers are aware of these.

2) Ensure all Gift Aid forms are completed accurately, and records maintained securely.

3) To apply cash handling procedures in accordance with local operating procedures.

4) To take action to ensure the unit is adequately manned, setting and maintaining rotas in the absence of the manager.

5) To summaries daily takings using agreed procedures.

Premises Management



1) To ensure housekeeping is to Wisdom Hospice Support standard.

2) To assist in the day-to-day responsibility for the interior.

3) To check that all equipment is kept in good working order.

4) To inform the Hangar Manager of necessary repairs and maintenance.

Security



1) To act as secondary key holder.

2) To ensure the security of the takings.

3) To adhere to the best circumstances for the personal security of volunteers.

4) To ensure that security procedures are understood and always carried out.

Job Types: Permanent, Full-time

Pay: Up to 26,229.00 per year
