Bloxham School is seeking a warm, reliable and proactive Assistant Matron to join our dedicated boarding team. The Role:
As Assistant Matron, you will:
Provide pastoral care and day-to-day support for boarders, helping them settle into school life
Offer a sympathetic ear, practical support and a reassuring adult presence in the house
Assist with domestic responsibilities including laundry, cleanliness, and general organisation
Supervise cleaners and support the upkeep of house facilities
Administer first aid and medication (training will be provided if necessary)
Liaise with the Medical Centre and escort pupils to appointments or A&E where required
Support house events and contribute to the welcoming family atmosphere
Act as a Fire Marshal and support health and safety duties in the house
This role requires flexibility, compassion and a hands-on approach to ensure that every pupil feels cared for, safe and supported.

Essential:
Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
Understanding of the pastoral needs of young people in a boarding environment

Experience in pastoral care within a school or boarding house

JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary of the Role:
Assist with the pastoral care of the pupils who are resident in the House by making a major contribution to the caring, family atmosphere of the School. This will involve working closely with the Matron to ensure that pupils settle into school life by providing a sympathetic ear and practical support.
Departmental Overview:
The Matron Department at Bloxham School, is dedicated to ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all students. Our purpose is to provide comprehensive pastoral care, addressing the physical and emotional needs of our boarding community. The Matron Department offers a nurturing and supportive environment, where students can seek help and guidance on various personal issues. By fostering strong relationships and maintaining a vigilant presence, the department plays a crucial role in promoting a safe and caring atmosphere, enabling students to thrive both academically and personally.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the domestic side of the day to day running of the boarding house.
Liaising closely with the Matron and Housemistress/Housemaster (HsM) with any concerns relating to the general welfare of the pupils. This may involve contact with the parents.
Regularly meet with the HsM to discuss the welfare of the students.
Assist the Matron with the supervision of the cleaners assigned to the House and the management of their workload to ensure that the House is maintained to a high standard of cleanliness; assist with domestic duties when required.
Helping to supervise the laundry for pupils.
Reporting all repairs and faults of fixtures and fittings in the House to the Matron, and liaising with the Matron on updating of fixtures, fittings and decoration.
Supporting House events, such as the annual House Dance, and assisting at Founderstide Day, Open Days and New Pupils Teas, as appropriate.
Endeavouring to see the students have tidy appearance.
Working with the Matron and cleaners to prepare the House at the start and end of each term.
Offering seamstress support where appropriate in the House.
Administering and maintaining records of medication given in house.
Administer first aid and medication.
Liaise with the Palmer Medical Centre on health-related matters of boarders.
Escort children to A&E if required.
Check student's rooms and report any issues to Matron/ HsM
Act as an adult presence in the house and as acting as a Fire Marshall in case of a fire alarm.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Adherence to the General Data Protection Regulations.
Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom the post holder is responsible, or with whom they come into contact.
Adhere to and ensure compliance with the School's Child Protection Policy at all times.
Report any concerns to the School's Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Comply with all health and safety provisions and systems provided by the school to practically prevent risk to the health, safety and welfare of all.
Undertake such other comparable duties as reasonably required from time to time.

Qualifications
Educated to GCSE Level or equivalent
Hold a first aid qualification (not essential)

20 hours per week, plus 12 hours at the start and end of each term over a two week pattern

11,197 per annum actual salary, including holiday pay, depending on experience (Full time equivalent of 25,420), paid over 12 months of the year.
