The Assistant Mechanical Planning Engineer will support the planning and execution of mechanical engineering projects by assisting in the development of work scopes, preparing budgets, and creating detailed schedules. This role will involve coordination with engineering, procurement, and construction/operation teams to ensure the mechanical works are delivered on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the development and maintenance of detailed mechanical project schedules using tools like MS Project or Primavera (P6).
Support the planning team in monitoring progress against baseline schedules.
Update look-ahead plans and highlight deviations or risks.
Assist in reviewing and defining the scope of mechanical works based on drawings, specifications, and site requirements.
Support preparation of scope documents for work packages, including equipment, piping, HVAC, and other mechanical systems.
Participate in site surveys and data collection to inform scoping decisions
Help in compiling cost estimates for mechanical work based on scope, material take-offs, and vendor quotes.
Assist in preparing and reviewing mechanical budgets and cost plans.
Monitor expenditures against budget and raise early warnings for cost overruns.
Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure alignment on scope and deliverables.
Assist in the preparation of regular progress reports, dashboards, and presentations for internal and client stakeholders.
Support change management by documenting scope or schedule changes and their budget impacts.
Maintain accurate records of schedules, scope changes, and budget updates.
Assist in the preparation of tender documents and technical evaluations.
Support procurement with technical input on equipment specifications.
Qualification & Skills:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
1-3 years of relevant experience in mechanical planning, preferably in industrial, infrastructure, or construction projects.
Basic knowledge of planning tools (Primavera P6, MS Project, etc.).
Understanding of mechanical systems, including piping, equipment, and HVAC.
Good analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical documents.
Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Experience in oil & gas, power, or large infrastructure projects.
Exposure to project management systems and cost control tools.
Familiarity with project lifecycle from design through commissioning.
