The Role:
The Assistant Merchandiser's role is to ensure that the company budgets are delivered through management of the day-to-day activities, making decisions on trading opportunities to maximise sales and profit. This role with will have a particular focus on International markets which include NAB, South Korea, Japan, Australia and the US.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Main duties include working closely with international buying teams to achieve set budgets. From buying, forecasting and trading through to markdown at end of season.
Area ManagementRuns weekly global reporting in preparation for Trade Meetings
Analyse weekly performances and recommend any necessary actions to drive trade
Coordinates the flow of information within business (communicates information from HO to international markets and vice versa)
Builds strong relationships with local GM, Buying teams and Visual Merchandisers to improve market performances
Provides comprehensive analysis of historical performance, as an input to the strategic plans
Assists with core and seasonal buys for international markets ensuring HO strategy is reflected globally
Manages core forecasting and orders for certain international markets
Compiles sign off documents for the buy
Stock and Sales ManagementEnsures stock is maintained at an optimum level through recommending re-buys and re-phasing of intake through the season.
Monitors and controls intake and commitment are accurate in line with business expectation.
Ensures that the decision-making tools (Line forecast, retail forecast) reflect the most accurate trading position on Sales, Stock, Intake and Margin.
Re-forecasts Line forecast considering actual in-season performances.
Provides timely analysis of current performance and is pro-active in interpreting, communicating and acting upon results.
Builds key relationships with Customer Services, Commercial and Warehouse to optimize the flow of products within the business (deliveries, returns, recalls) to meet business objectives.
Builds and maintains seasonal reports such as sell through, PGR Budgets
Leads monthly product meetings, providing in depth analysis and recommendations to drive trade in own areas
Market KnowledgeConduct regular competitor shops and present findings and recommendations back to team and relevant departments
Have a strong understanding of competitor product

Skills and Experience Required:
Confident and assertive to make and meet challenges. The Assistant Merchandiser will be required to display flexibility, organisation and prioritisation skills and the ability to produce analysis and plans in three time frames, past, present and future. The Assistant Merchandiser needs to be self-disciplined, organised, and resilient with the ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines. Analytical skills, a flair for product, a talent for communicating and team working abilities are crucial to succeed in the role.
