JOB DESCRIPTION - Assistant Nursery Manager
Purpose of Role
This role exists to overall manage the nursery, to satisfy regulatory compliance, manage employees, provide development of the business, and work closely with the directors to ensure objectives for the business are carried out.
KEY OBJECTIVES
Ensure the effective daily management of the nursery in accordance with Company Policy; the Children Act 1989, and other relevant legislation; and all Local Authority and OFSTED requirements.
Responsible for the safety, security and well-being of all children registered with the nursery.
Be responsible for training and discipline of all nursery staff.
Monitor and ensure all agreed Company quality and safety standards are maintained in the nursery at all times.
Main Responsibilities
Operational
1. Review and monitor occupancy levels to ensure they are maintained to maximum capacity. Proactively market the nursery to meet these objectives.
Responsible for ensuring the nursery, aims to meets it's target numbers:
To promote the nursery to prospective newcomers.
3. Formulate, operate and evaluate an annual programme of activities, suitable for the age range of the children, following the guidelines for the implementation of `Early Learning Goals' and the nursery policy documents.
Ensuring a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual education and care for children placed in the Day Nursery.
In conjunction with the Management Team, formulating and operating a programme of activities suitable to the age range of the children attending the Day Nursery.
Being responsible for assessing children with Special Needs, in conjunction with the SENCO to formulate and operate an individual programme of activities, to achieve full integration within the Nursery.
Being responsible for and available to undertake a group within the Day Nursery, implementing the daily routine, at dinner time.
To ensure that the education within the Pre-school unit is of the highest standard set out by OFSTED. Liaise with and support the staff within the Pre-school unit.
4. Ensure that required standards, ratios and conditions of registration are maintained at all times. Develop relationships with and utilise the Early Years Partnership.
5. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for all children including attendance registers, medical cards, emergency contact numbers, etc.
To prepare and maintain records of the children and initiate reviews for parents and other professionals assisting with the children's development.
Being responsible for all administrative duties associated with the management of the facility, e.g. maintaining records on the children and their families, submitting orders to the purchaser, maintaining an inventory, keeping personnel records.
6. Action and monitor all child protection issues; parents' issues; complaints and accidents to ensure that any remedial action is taken immediately. Liaise with the directors as appropriate.
Liaising with parents and other family members.
9. Ensure the maintenance of balanced menus for the children within the nursery and that all food provided conforms to Food Safety regulations.
10. Prepare the nursery for OFSTED inspections and action any recommendations made by Inspector, liaising with the directors as appropriate.
11. Ensure care, maintenance and security of equipment and toys within the nursery.
Personnel
1. Ensure all nursery staff are trained, motivated, appraised and developed in a positive effective manner, taking account of Company Policy and all statutory requirements to ensure that they fulfill the provisions of their job description.
To supervise and support all employees within the Nursery in their day to day duties.
Ensure appraisals take place on a regular basis, identifying staff training needs etc. and ensure that they are accommodated accordingly.
Health and Safety
1. Ensure the highest standards of safety and security within the nursery.
2. Ensure security systems are always fully operational and used properly by staff.
3. Maintain an accident log book, in accordance with Company Policy, and legislation - ensure all relevant reports are submitted e.g. RIDDOR.
4. Operate highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene within the nursery. Establish appropriate emergency procedures.
5. Supervise the administration of all medication within the nursery. Undertake and maintain records of regular Risk Assessments.
General - Adhere to all Company Policies and Procedures
