Job Summary


The Assistant Operations Manager plays a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of our charity. We are seeking a proactive and commercially driven individual to support the delivery of high-quality guest experience across our Events, Catering, Retail and Zoo Operations at both of our animal collections, Banham Zoo and Africa Alive in Kessingland. This role is ideal for someone with strong operational acumen, a flair for hospitality, and experience in high-footfall visitor attractions or leisure venues. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and possess strong leadership skills to help drive operational excellence.

Working hours will be five days out of seven, and will include weekends, Bank Holidays and some evenings to support your teams.

Key Duties



Act as Duty Manager ie be the first port of call for on site emergencies, complaints, queries, major first aid events Monitor daily operations to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, co-ordinating with a number of other departments to resolve operational issues swiftly and effectively. Support the co-ordination and delivery of public, private and corporate events Support Retail teams to ensure attractive displays are optimised for high sales levels, and lead in upselling memberships, experiences and delivering exceptional customer service Oversee daily operation of all Catering units on site, as well as external vendors. Ensure full compliance with UK food safety and hygiene regulations. Liaise with suppliers, place orders and monitor spend, stock levels and wastage Assist in recruitment, training and supervising front line staff to foster a positive work environment. Co-ordinate rotas and ensure staffing levels are appropriate for seasonality/events/etc Participate in budget planning and resource allocation, having oversight of performance, and sales

Skills



Strong leadership and team management abilities. Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. IT literate (MS Office, POS systems, booking software) Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Problem-solving mindset with a focus on continuous improvement. 2-4 years previous experience in operations or project management is preferred.
