in Development Economics




Assistant Professor salary is no less than 68,087 per annum


Associate Professor salary is no less than 80,927 per annum

In addition, this post may attract a significant market salary supplement that reflects current market conditions in some social science disciplines.





The Department of International Development invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor in Development Economics. We are a vibrant multidisciplinary department seeking candidates at the frontier of macro- or micro- development economics, strong skills in empirical causal inference, and a demonstrated interest in field-based research.



The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping our growing MSc. in Economic Policy for International Development (EPID) and delivering high-quality teaching at the MSc and PhD levels to students across the department. They will show a commitment to working in a multidisciplinary environment and contribute to the intellectual life of the School through conducting and publishing outstanding research, engaging in other high-quality teaching as instructed by the Head of Department, and participating in the School and wider Departmental activities.



Successful applicants for the Assistant Professor position will have a PhD, or be close to completing a PhD by the start date, in a relevant field. They must have proven ability to conduct quantitative empirical research using the tools of modern causal inference and to publish internationally excellent work in top economics journals.



Candidates applying at the Associate level will additionally have published world-leading research in top economics journals, an international reputation in development economics research, and a strong pipeline of work in progress and a clear, well-developed strategy for future outstanding research that has the potential to result in world-leading publications.



The start date is ideally by 1 September 2026.
