Assistant Outdoor Activities Manager

Wotton-under-Edge, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

About Us

Based in a picturesque quarry in South Gloucestershire, The Lake is one of the South West's premier outdoor leisure facilities. We are a hub of activity, offering everything from open water swimming and scuba diving to paddleboarding and triathlons. Our unique setting includes a 4-hectare lake with submerged attractions for divers, and our amenities are designed to provide a complete experience for our visitors, with changing facilities, a swim shop, and our own on-site food truck. We're part of South West Maritime Academy, a business that specialises in Maritime Safety Training, bringing a high level of expertise and safety to everything we do.

The Role

We are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic Assistant Outdoor Activities Manager to help lead our team. This is a hands-on role where you'll be at the forefront of our operations, ensuring the safe and high-quality delivery of our leisure activities and events. You will work closely with the Outdoor Activities Manager to not only manage the day-to-day but also to listen to feedback, explore new ideas, and maintain our high standards. This is an opportunity to be a key part of our senior team, contributing to the growth and development of our activities and events, which include everything from triathlons to seasonal themed events.

What You'll Do

As a key member of the senior team, you will be integral to the daily life of The Lake. Your responsibilities will include assisting with the day-to-day management of our leisure facilities, taking a hands-on approach to running sessions, and ensuring all activities are set up correctly. You will be instrumental in organising exciting events, from triathlons to social gatherings and seasonal themed events, all while supporting the wider business operations.

You will play a vital role in leading our team, ensuring staff are well-supported to deliver an exceptional experience. This includes assisting with team management by creating rotas, conducting observations and reviews, and helping to plan and deliver staff training. Effective communication will be key, ensuring important information is passed to the team in a timely and clear manner.

Your role will also have a commercial focus. You will help promote The Lake by contributing to our social media channels, creating engaging content, and assisting with customer bookings and queries. You will also oversee stock levels for our retail shop and catering facility and will be responsible for end-of-day cash handling.

Upholding our excellent safety standards is paramount. You will assist in managing all health and safety requirements, implementing and reviewing risk assessments and operating procedures alongside the Outdoor Activities Manager. This includes contributing to the ongoing compliance and management of our popular on-site catering facility.
