Job Description

We are looking for a talented and experienced individual to be our Assistant Principal - Skills.

As Assistant Principal -Skills you will provide effective strategic leadership for the development of Skills across the curriculum and College as a whole, ensuring that we are positioned to meet the needs of the future workforce and employers, via the development of a vibrant forward focused curriculum and programmes. You will ensure positive outcomes and progression opportunities for all learners, developing and expanding our links with employers and other stakeholders and truly embedding their impact. You will work closely with the Assistant Principal -Study Programmes and other members of SLT. You will manage designated curriculum managers across funding streams and in addition you will oversee the work of the Director of Business Development, growing our provision to better meet the needs of employers, diversifying our funding routes through, for example, skills bootcamps, partnership work, full cost provision and apprenticeships. The Assistant Principal - Skills will play a pivotal leadership role in our response to Government developments in the area of skills, the LSIP and the London Growth Plan

You should have an absolute commitment to student success and all-round excellence along with an ability to build and embed strong links with external stakeholders and develop curriculum.

The salary for this post is 70,000, or more for an outstanding candidate.

Job Summary



Strategic lead for skills, curriculum and quality matters, ensuring excellent performance in all areas of the College's work. The Assistant Principal Skills will work closely with the Assistant Principal Study Programmes for the College and manage designated Curriculum managers across funding streams. They will provide effective leadership for designated curriculum areas to ensure the effective delivery of all aspects of the programme, ensuring that the entirety of the programme meets the needs of learners and funding requirements. The Assistant Principal Skills will strategically lead on the development and enhancement of skills and provision for the whole College in line with the needs of local, regional and national skills requirements as well as playing a strategic lead role in positioning the College in response to the LSIP and GLA London Growth Plan. The Assistant Principal Skills will take the lead on LSIF bids and projects and work with the Director of Business Development to ensure the input of employers and other stakeholders and enhance our ability to diversify our offer through additional funding routes and partnership work.

Main Duties and Responsibilities



oProvide Strategic leadership on the development and enhancement of Stanmore's skills provision and curriculum offer to support local, regional and national priorities.

oProvide effective leadership and management across designated curricula and funding routes

oProvide strategic and inspirational leadership to support learners during their education and training with the College

oProvide strategic leadership on teaching, learning and quality ensuring learners receive a quality learning experience.

oWork closely with the Deputy Principal, Assistant Principal Study Programmes, Quality Managers and the Director of Student Support to ensure that every learner has outstanding experience, excels in all aspects of their programmes and progresses to a high-quality destination.

oWork closely with Marketing and Admissions to ensure that the recruitment process is effective.

oEnsure that the information provided to students and prospective students and their parents or carers is accurate, timely and appropriate.

oLead on the embedding of new qualifications and qualification routes for learners ensuring that curriculum teams are abreast of qualification reform and change.

oPlay a key strategic role in developing and growing the College's ability to deliver employer, external stakeholder and skills facing provision, working in partnership where needed and responding to initiatives such as skills bootcamps, free course for jobs, and developing apprenticeship routes in identified areas

oDeputise, if required, for the Deputy Principal in strategic areas of responsibility.

oProvide Governor briefings on key areas of responsibility and attend Governor meetings in an advisory capacity when required

People and Organisational Development



Staff management in accordance with Stanmore College's strategic Development Strategy and underpinning policies and procedure.

Ensuring efficiency (full utilisation) and effectiveness of staff. Plan and negotiate resource allocations in line with strategic priorities. Act as lead recruiter for all staff in the area or responsibility Ensure lead managers work towards ensuring effective cross college team working towards shared strategic objectives Encourage innovation, entrepreneurship, flexibility and responsiveness among college leaders Ensure unacceptable/marginal staff performance is addressed at the earliest opportunity Monitor application of key HR policies and procedures by college leaders and take a lead in implementing more formal processes where necessary To provide a coaching support for reporting managers and take a lead in management development sessions. To ensure with other managers that continuing professional development for teachers and their managers is effective and impactful Responsible for Staff Appraisals within area of responsibility

Finance & Resource Management



Finance and resources direction which optimises the utilisation of all budgets and resources allocated in the pursuit of achieving outstanding provision for learners

Ensure managers operate the resource allocation model to ensure efficient application of resources. Negotiate annual pay and non-pay budgets and monitoring their efficient operation Development of capital or other bids to support growth and development of areas of responsibility. Lead on LSIF bids and oversight of associated projects Responsible for Risk Management and Health, Safety and Welfare Management across all areas of responsibility. Work closely with Head of Estates with regards to student activities, including trips and student induction. Ensure that managers' report accurate and complete data to the MIS Department in accordance with College policy and procedure.

Student Experience



Strategic responsibility for the quality of the learner experience across the whole of their programme.

Ensure support is available for pro-active and consistent marketing, promotion and communication through effective professional liaison with colleagues Promote cross College support and ensure compliance with college policy particularly in respect to the tutoring and pastoral care of students and Equality and Diversity. Support managers in the management of student behaviour and conduct. Promote and enforce the College's Staff Code of Conduct.

Cross-College Responsibilities



To support a co-ordinated and successful operation.

Strategically lead on the development and enhancement of skills and provision for the College in line with the needs of local, regional and national skills requirements and the requirements of local partnerships for example West London Alliance and the LSIP as well as playing a strategic lead role in positioning the College in response to the GLA London Growth Plan. To play a lead role in the development of enhanced employer links, supporting effective curriculum development and enhancing industry knowledge of staff and students. To Lead on the development of College provision in areas such as apprentices, skills bootcamps and other bids as they arise. To lead on the Accountability Agreement Responsible for developing cross-college team working Promote effective communications and development of support systems which promote a cross-college team approach. Lead on curriculum planning, ensuring this meets the needs of students and any other stakeholders/ parameters and is efficient. Act as College representative to external organisations and associations. To take the lead on designated cross college areas.

Senior Leadership



As a member of the College Senior Leadership Team, to participate in the formulation and implementation of College strategy and ensure that senior leaders are aware of, and briefed on, any developments and initiatives affecting Students and the skills agenda in response to local, regional or national developments:

To participate fully as a senior leader in the Senior Leadership Team by supporting the College Leadership ethos at all times. To attend Governor's meetings as appropriate; Identification, development and implementation of strategies, policies and processes to further the College's Mission, Vision, Aims and Objectives. Identification and development of staffing, resource and information management initiatives and projects. Promotion of the corporate values, ethos, systems, and processes of the College. Management and development of management teams dedicated to the continuous improvement of performance.

General



To adhere to Health, Safety and Welfare policies and Equality and Diversity strategies, and to comply with all relevant legislation. To undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required commensurate with the level of seniority, as determined by the Principal. The post holder will be expected to participate in staff appraisal activities both as appraise and appraiser, as required by College Policy. Participating in the Duty Manager rota as and when required. Taking personal responsibility for supporting, promoting and following all College policies in relation to health and safety, safeguarding, equality and diversity and data protection within the scope of the post.
