About the Role

For informal enquiries, please contact Professor Matthew Clayton (Head of Department) m.g.clayton@warwick.ac.uk

Applications are invited for an indefinite Assistant Professorship in International Organisations in the Department of Politics and International Studies (PAIS) at the University of Warwick to start as soon as possible in the academic year 2025-26. The appointment will be made at FA7 of the University of Warwick salary scale.

We are interested in receiving applications from scholars with expertise in regional and global international organisations (IOs). We welcome interest from scholars who explore the role and influence of IOs in both historical and contemporary contexts through a range of theoretical perspectives and methods. Relevant topics may include (but are not limited to) institutional design, international public policy, global governance, and the role of IOs in international cooperation. The remit of the position also includes non-governmental organisations and regional organisations. An ability to teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules designed to engage with a wide range of IOs would be particularly welcome. The Department has specialists regarding the European Union and international financial institutions, so we are especially looking to complement these strengths with expertise on the UN system, regional organisations beyond Europe, global technology governance, or the interaction of states and non-state actors from the Global South with international organisations. Those with expertise in cognate areas of Politics or International Studies are welcome to apply.

The successful candidate will join one or more of PAIS's research clusters (International Relations and Security, International Political Economy, Comparative Politics, Environmental Politics and Political Theory) and will also benefit from engagement with our longstanding Centre for the Study of Globalisation and Regionalisation. We are a methodologically pluralist department and welcome all different approaches to the study of the politics and international studies.

About You
The successful candidate will have achieved national eminence and authority for the quality and impact of their research and scholarship, and will be developing an international profile. They will be expected to produce high-quality research outputs in leading journals and presses, to pursue competitive bids for external research funding, and to demonstrate a commitment to generating impact beyond the academy.

In addition, the post-holder will be expected to design and teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules related to International Organisations. You will also have the opportunity to help shape our curriculum by offering modules in your research specialism. Additionally, you will support the supervision of dissertations at UG and PGT levels.

You will demonstrate a track record of, or reflective engagement with, advancing Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in the workplace, including efforts to promote gender and racial equality. A demonstrable commitment to inclusive teaching practices--particularly in relation to supporting students from underrepresented backgrounds, including those with disabilities and the implementation of reasonable adjustments--is essential. Experience with decolonising the curriculum and anti-racist, intersectional, or other critical pedagogical approaches is highly desirable.

For further information regarding the skills required for this role please see the personal specification section of the attached job description.
